The reality is Connor has been out for two years. Roy is a cautious manager who is reluctant to push him. Personally, I agree with this approach.

With our re assembled squad and maybe one more to come and following our display against Spurs where 6 regulars were rested, we are currently ata place where we have the very real chance and need of squad rotation. In my view Roy and his coaching team are showing us all the strengths of their massive experience and expertise. We now have some very exciting strength in depth in the squad and we have been playing some really attractive football.
The move that led to Starmans shot at the keeper on Sunday being a classic example.
I have every confidence in what we now have in place all round comfortably keeping us in the top 14 in the Premier. Our management clearly have a plan that is delivering. Long may it continue.

Wickham is so injury prone and there is an interview with Roy from last year talking about the reason being that he is always rushed back too soon and he thinks he's fit when he isn't. We're not gonna get relegated this year so there is no benefit to risking Wickham only for him to be out for another three months. Increase his minutes marginally match by match, give him complete rests while he develops his physical resilience. Don't bank on him being the answer to our striking woes this season. He needs a good pre-season next season to rediscover the glimpses of form he showed in previous seasons.

Benteke is the best forward we have- once he has match fitness he will be Roy’s number one pick.
You can’t pick Wickham or Ayew ahead of a Belgian international.

If Hodgson picks Ayew to play up front tomorrow then he goes even further down in my estimations. We need a minimum 7 points from these next 3 games, so why play someone who has scored just 1 league goal in 15 games this season and then he was offside? Surely he has to start one of Benteke / Wickham and then swap them over after an hour.

I like Connor's general attitude, there are times when CB looks like he isn't really bothered, quite the opposite with Wickham. A nasty ACL doesn't make him fragile and trying to come back too early shows he's no sick note. If we had them both firing I'd be absolutely delighted.

But one that deserves a little more respect

Kane on corners.
That interview where he denied Wickham's contribution was the end. A fraud.
Good to see Conner back and looking hungry.

If he can physically handle starting a cup game why not a league game?

I agree with what you are saying but it makes no sense that he is capable of startling in the cup but not the league, which is what Roy said.

Well, that's quite an achievement after nearly six years

It’s fairly evident that Hodgson doesn’t believe Wickham and Benteke are not ready to start and complete premier league games at the moment.
In the near term it looks like Ayew will be starting games and Benteke and Wickham given 15-20 minutes on occasions.
If we do bring another striker in on deadline day, who is deemed good enough to start, I would even question how much time Benteke and Wickham would get, and there could be even be an argument to let Wickham go on loan to get game time.
