When he comes on we donít need to do as much defending, as he takes the game to the other team.

Nope

Itís because the opposition are knackered by then

Spot on! And thatís why Meyer has the impact that he has as a substitute.

Saha and Meyer are very in tune in and around the box, they are just given time to exploit the opposition. Then again our finishing was abysmal yesterday 26 attempts, yeah 26 attempts we should have absolutely buried WH...

What's Hennessey done to upset you???

Meyer looks pretty when making his passes and is very effective when we are in our flow, but when our backs are up against the wall give me McArthur all day long. He puts the hard graft in and gives us gritt in midfield that I think Meyer cannot offer. Itís difficult because there is different points in every game when both would excel.

Agreed - Meyer wouldnít have been suited for that first half yesterday. If McArthur hadnít of been out there we might have been two or three down at half time. Perhaps thereís a place in the team for Meyer, Luka and McArthur?

Unfortunately true.

If so, doubt Roy told him when he joined that he was going to fill this role. Suspect he will move on to pastures new if he remains a bench player.

So they are knackered and we arenít? We were all over them second half yesterday, I thought it was because weíd gone up a gear and were the better team, Iím a bit disappointed it was just because they were knackered.

Seriously ? Couldnít thread a pair of socks ? You must have had your head stuck up your arse for the last four years.

So MacArthur is a number 10 graced with the creativity necessary to play neat through balls?

Even if that was true 2 years ago, which is wasnít, he is still having a poor, poor season by previous standards.

He is a combative defensively sound midfield player. As you saw quite clearly yesterday, he is fairly lost in and around the opponents box these days.

He is being asked to get forward a hell of a lot, and gets into areas where Max Meyer could deliver way more damage.

No, stop putting words into othersí mouths. As you point out heís no Pirlo but is far better than youíve suggested.

Over the last four years heís been up there as one of our best, most consistent performers and weighed in with his share of important goals. Heís played every position in midfield, never hides and nearly always a 7 out of 10 or better. This season heís continued to be a threat in the final third but unfortunately his finishing (which was previously a strength) has deserted him.

Meyer has struggled to make a impact in a few of the games where heís started but has impressed as a substitute and looks a good player.

The game at the top level has changed massively in the five years weíve been in the Premier League and Iím not sure a team of our stature can enjoy the luxury of a playing a number 10.

With regard to yesterday JM was far from lost in West Hamís penalty box and found some good positions but seems to have picked up the disease from a few of the others of losing his composure in front of goal.

Not sure why in the first half he didn't put his head up to see where he was shooting ? Seemed to have his head down. Clearly by the 2nd half he was having the yips in front of goal like others in the team. This inability to convert in front of goal must be effecting everybody, as we seem to be snatching at every chance across the attack. Cannot fault his work rate though and your points stated.

Didnít put any words in your mouth, you said I had my head up my arse for suggesting MacArthur in not good at threading through balls - usually a skill we associate with gifted creative players with quick feet and good vision. Does that sound like anyone on our bench?

MacArthur is none of those things.

Not sure MacArthur been a ďthreat in the final 3rdĒ this season tbh.

Meyer is not a number 10. He played def mid for schalke. He could be asked to do the exact role that MacArthur did yesterday and we would probably score more goals.

Everything you say about MacArthur and his historical importance is basically correct, apart from him being a ďthreatĒ this year where he has 2 goals, one of which was a cross.

You cannot judge Meyer on 1 or 2 games here or there, he needs a run of games otherwise itís apples to oranges however the evidence was clear for everyone to see yesterday. MacArthur had a mare, committed the worst miss I have seen all year and in 10 mins on the pitch Meyer added more to our attacking game than MacArthur had all game long.

Meyer had a run of six starts Burnley, Brighton, West Ham, Leicester, Man City, Cardiff. Roy hooked him in the Cardiff game when he was poor. Went to all of these except Brighton.

As Iíve suggested before, Roy could do with mixing things up a bit but Meyer has looked panicked at times when heís received the ball deep in his own half with no immediate option.
