Do you have any sort of intelligent, sensible contribution to make to this thread?

Would it surprise you to discover that I couldn't give a f*** what you think?

The country is full of culture. The country is full of British culture. Britain was until a few generations ago an almost exclusively white country. So the museums which house Britain's culture reflect this fact by exhibiting culture that is connected to our predominantly white heritage. They aren't described as being white because they don't need to be. Whiteness was and to a large extent still is inherent within our culture.

But now we also have black people contributing towards British culture. A museum of Black British Culture would therefore provide Britain's museums with a greater degree of overall diversity.

Want a day out at the Viking museum in York - go for it! Fancy a trip to the Black British Culture Museum - help yourself. Don't fancy either of them? I don't blame you.

Find something more interesting to debate? I wish you would.

How has it descended to this? Is everyone so concerned about looking inclusive and diversity aware that they'll ignore the actual facts of history. This is bizarre! Like when the BBC had black Roman generals all over the gaff, it's just ridiculously inaccurate for the sake of inclusion. What next? Henry the 8th played by Morgan Freeman?!?

History is history, it cannot be altered. Colour really doesn't come into it.

Equality has gone bang the other way, with large institutions like the BBC now hiring people exclusively of BAME backgrounds which I find both insulting to the applicants and disadvantageous to the organisation. Surely, anyone wants their job on merit, not because they ticked a box?

With all these ringfenced opportunities, vociferously promoted by the culture of virtue signalling, I'd like to see all the positive exploits from the BAME community making history, not just rewriting it to suit, how patronising is that? Forget "Black museums" and all that other empty sentiment, let's see it in action and judge on merit, not colour.

I kind of believe we have put our thoughts out there on this.

You are in a real grump tonight Steve.

Turn that flown upside down.

I was considering starting a thread about the Liam Neeson race row stuff on the BBC website.....but the controversial stuff can get a bit downbeat after a while.

Advancement by meritocracy......So old fashioned Chris.

I mean look at the Labour front bench.....Mind you....look at half the Tory bench.

We are seriously f***ed.....and we didn't even get a cab ride home.

having a whole museum devoted to one race is racist.

all this talk on here about sharing materials with another museum. but which one ?

the science museum ?

the british transport museum ?

the sex museum in Amsterdam ?

the beer museum in bruges ?

the imperial war museum ?

the museum of ice cream in San francisco ?

its difficult to find a single-solution

best to abandon the whole idea.

Surely if the museum is to highlight non white culture;
Why is it not a black, asian, far eastern and other non white populations.
Just having a black museum is racist against other non white people.!

Let's not forget of course, I don't regard 'diversity' as important or required within a integrated meritocracy.

However, lets look at the museums you mention.

There isn't any race based aspect to Science.

The Mary Rose museum is about a ship......You ask about diversity in a museum about a ship? Seriously?

The Roman baths.....The Romans were Italians living in a foreign land.....Diversity staring you in the face.

Not that this should be important at all.

Diversity of subject matter, doesn't limit itself to race. In the post you quoted, I didn't mention race at all.

Dude. In modern Britain, I think there is absolutely no chance whatsoever that your kids won't learn about Windrush whether they like it or not.

To be honest. If you want to know about something in 2018, you only have to go looking. Information is everywhere. Some of it is even true.

I learnt nothing about it in school, only first hand accounts from family members who were on the ship itself.

Is it?

There is a museum & memorial dedicated to the Jews murdered as part of the Holocaust in Berlin.

Is that actually a racist museum?
