Indeed. But why does it have to be 'Black history' and not just History?

History is history. I don't accept that you have to be Black to appreciate Black contributions any more than one has to be Egyptian to appreciate the Pyramids.

This is the point.

When it becomes about race.....then they can't then turn around and say, identity politics for one but not another.

If someone says it's alright to celebrate being 'black'....which, in reality I think is fine to do.....then they can't say you shouldn't be celebrating being 'white'.....whether they want to bulls*** disingenuously around it being 'culture' or not.

Those that say it's alright to do both I have no issues with at all. I might suggest it's not a good idea but those people aren't hypocrites.

The claim made about our famous British museums being about 'white' culture is quite insulting actually.

Has anyone ever said you shouldn't be able to celebrate being white?

Museums in Britain mostly contain white cultural artifacts, not sure why you seem offended by that.

Hornimans is a good example, rich colonial era tea merchant travels the world acquiring shrunken heads from Borneo etc., then goes home and puts them on display in Forest Hill.

Yes, even in this thread we have had accusations of 'white supremacy' and 'racism' even for pointing out the double standard.

'White cultural artifacts' is a label you have given it. There is no museum making this claim or indeed point. It is yourself and others who have introduced race into the description. Now you are entitled to do that, however previously I didn't see things in this light.....I was always taught that this was counter to integration.

I only make the point that once this is done for one it is done for all.

It's very much the opposite for white history. People want to delete it.

Yep, the 'anti white' nature of many on the progressive left is a meme at this point......and it has institutional power especially at the media and academic level.....and since the Tories under May adopted many of the progressive left's social policies it has some governmental approval as seen in 'diversity' targets.

My old grandad was a Labour man through and through and died back in the early eighties.....if he could see what the modern day Labour party is today I wonder what he'd make of it.

Are you on a wind up? In the opening post you levelled that people might want to see this museum as 'black supremacy' and 'racism' based on how you feel the opposite would be perceived. You mock the proposed black Britons museum with the idea that it could have an evils committed by the evil white man area, call support for it disengenious bulls*** and then feel affronted when someone replies Im off to the museum of white supremacy for a slap up in reference to said opening post. You have thin skin for someone who clearly likes to goad and has a lot to say about the behaviour and nature of other racial groups.

As you're from a mixed family I think you're more likely than some to view issues of race with interest and intrigue rather than fear and encroachment.

You have misrepresented what I said..

To quote me I said on the matter of a 'black culture' museum, 'Apparently that's alright and something to promote......no words like 'black supremacy' being used and nothing about discrimination or racism.....despite this clearly being about race which is discriminating on the basis of genetics.'

This is not suggesting that people see this museum as 'black supremacy'. This is clearly a criticism of the people who would call a white culture museum 'white supremacy' but say nothing for other race groups. This is a criticism of the double standards portrayed by the media and activists or brain washed in this racial arena.

As for my criticisms of the negative one sided narratives pushed over white culture and history. Yes, that representation is an entirely accurate reflection of my attitude.

What are you basing the 'thin skin' and 'feeling affronted' on? Comments to being called a racist?

That's something quite common from progressive leftists. Replying isn't being 'affronted'.....No complaint has been made.

Please understand before one of us dies.

British culture is not about colour. It just happens that Britain was full of mostly White people.

We don't call it the British White museum do we for god sake.

Awfully gammon-y in here...

But anyway, my two pence is that black history isn't properly taught and reflected well enough in today's schools. Definitely wasn't done in the few weeks we covered it in my school. I learnt more about it from my own parents.

The way I look at it, celebrating one culture's history doesn't go hand in hand in degrading or disregarding another's. Of course, if you are a black person or identify with Black culture, you're going to be more for this than others.

For example, we as Palace fans are way more interested in what goes on with our club, hence us all being here. When we get excited/passionate about Palace winning a game, you don't get expect to see the same level of interest from an Arsenal fan for example. They haven't experienced what we have, don't share the same passions as us or the same level of expectations of us.

A non-black person wouldn't understand the importance the same way because it's not part of who they are, it's not what they are passionate about and it isn't their experience.

Sure, open a "white culture" museum if you like, but how different would that be to other existing history museums?

So should the existing museums now begin a policy of excluding all things Black?

It really helps your viewpoint when you begin your post with a racist statement.

Because despite lunatic frothing fringes on every side of every arguement, idiots complaining that groups of people that have been victimised all through history are being appreciated, furious women demand they are right to hate you and still demand your respect and people furious that a razor company said that men shouldnt treat women like objects...it is still a wonderful country and the crap they got from idiots just for living here is still worth it to them..
