Awfully gammon-y in here... But anyway, my two pence is that black history isn't properly taught and reflected well enough in today's schools. Definitely wasn't done in the few weeks we covered it in my school. I learnt more about it from my own parents. The way I look at it, celebrating one culture's history doesn't go hand in hand in degrading or disregarding another's. Of course, if you are a black person or identify with Black culture, you're going to be more for this than others. For example, we as Palace fans are way more interested in what goes on with our club, hence us all being here. When we get excited/passionate about Palace winning a game, you don't get expect to see the same level of interest from an Arsenal fan for example. They haven't experienced what we have, don't share the same passions as us or the same level of expectations of us. A non-black person wouldn't understand the importance the same way because it's not part of who they are, it's not what they are passionate about and it isn't their experience. Sure, open a "white culture" museum if you like, but how different would that be to other existing history museums? An insult based on somebody's skin colour: bit racist.

We have white culture museums all over the country. Big dusty halls stuffed full of things we as a nation appropriated from other places to demonstrate just how clever and cultured we are. We have halls dedicated to the great white men of the past and present but very little that reflects the BAME culture which has existed long before the Windrush generation. You will maybe get a small section at say the Docklands Museum or London Transport museum or a Museum dedicated to Slavery in Liverpool but nothing that speaks to the real cultures that have grown up over many years all over Britain. Guess your view of this has to be clouded by if you think this diversity and a multicultural nation is worth having. I grew up in Thornton Heath in the 70's and early 80's and have friends going back many years of many creeds and colours. Their culture is as much mine and I would love to see it celebrated.

This inaccurate point about our museums has been continually made through this thread. I'll answer it one more time. Our Museums have not been created with a skin colour as a requirement. That's you putting race into it....not them. Nationality and skin colour are not synonyms. I presume that you are fine with changing the names of these museums by prefacing them with the word 'White' and ensuring we exclude any non white person of note from within them......So the 'White British Museum' ete ete......You refer to the 'race' exhibitions that sometimes appear yet dismiss it as somehow inadequate. Because that's what you are saying these places are......Ok, I get it. You support race based Museums. I might not agree with you but as long as you have no problem and support this for white people as well then you are no hypocrite. Edited by Stirlingsays (04 Feb 2019 10.04am)

Nah, that would be racist mate. The correct solution for me is to properly include and integrate black history with current museums. Gammon isn't a racist statement, come on now

Gammon tends to refer to middle aged leavers but I have seen plenty of middle aged remainers get all frothy mouthed and eyes bulging so its exclusive to both.

It's a term specific to angry, right-wing, middle aged white males, coined by young, left-wing white people. And I'll sign you up for the "it's not a snowflake when I do it" club.

Yeah....and the 'n' word only refers to a certain type of criminal black person nowadays...so we can use it without offence then? Or are there double standards? We all know the colour of gammon.
