benteke went through a crisis of confidence, ayew isnt a centre forward. when you don't have a striker who's scoring, the pressure on the rest rises and chances are probably harder to score.

the real question is simply what happened to Benteke and is it permanent?

there's no 'thing' going on. we are simply a goalscoring forward short of ~6-8 goals and 6-8 points.

Have to agree.
We do not have one organised, well rehearsed corner or free kick routine after 18 months with Roy. This must be addressed, surely?

Why have we become so impotent at Corners? Every time the ball comes across a defender heads it out. We’ve got plenty of tall players who don’t seem to get anywhere near the ball. Why?

McArthur used to score some vital goals. Now he narrowly misses. What is he doing wrong? It’s happening every game.

Goal scoring is a talent, and aside from Zaha, we have no one on our team that has it.

Luka and Townsend can blast an occasional amazing goal, but no one has the skill to convert half chances or better with any regularity.

Aguero missed a tap in today, very similar to all the ones that we miss. Then he banged in three. We miss a tap in and that's the only chance we get.

And yet he had to be heavily coached in order to make this the case. For years we were bemoaning the only thing missing from his game was his ability to finish.

However I agree with the general sentiment (as I have said in previous post) that there is not anything intrinsically wrong. It will come maybe through Michy or others finding some confidence or the floodgates suddenly opening. I would be much ,ore concerned if we were not creating chances or we were defensively weak. We only have one thing to fix, other clubs have many.

I feel sorry for anyone playing centre forward in the current regime because so often the ball just doesn’t come, or when it does the entire defence is back and settled.

The big difference between first and second half Saturday was that in the first the build up was so pedestrian. Endless triangles between Sakho, Schlupp and PVA (when he wasn’t just giving the ball away), or Wilf getting the ball and immediately slowing down to allow second defender to close him down. Alternatively AWB to Andros; to AWM to MacArthur (when he wasn’t giving the ball away).

All this time Benteke is trying to get into position for something. From the upper tier you can see him getting on the defender’s shoulder (same with Ayew in previous games) for a ball into the channel which never comes. Well twice it did earlier in the season when Luka seriously over hit one and MacArthur knocked the other one at least ten metres wide of where it was needed.

That along with our dreadful corners and the crosses which bounce first on the far 18 yard line and second bounce out of play sum up that the delivery to the forwards is shocking. I have great hopes for Batshuayi but I fear that he too won’t get the service.

Oh and it would probably help if someone, anyone could get into the box and give some support so the defence cannot all concentrate on the one guy who is in there. During the pedestrian buildup they have plenty of time to get in there

I got vision, and the rest of the world wears bifocals.

We do seem poor on decision making. Yesterday there were several examples:

Macca shot should go across keeper.

Benteke didn’t need to take a touch before his shot - all that did was narrow the angle & give the keeper time to set himself.

Macca’s ‘big miss’ should’ve been a simple pass to PVA or Benteke.

There were several times where the ball came in low with Benteke the only target or up high when he wasn’t there. A quick look up could solve this though.

We rarely hit first time crosses either which allows defenders to sort themselves out rather than be heading towards their own goal when it comes in. Pape used to supply a few & even Ward too - perhaps AWB could swing em in rather than looking for Andros?

It’s frustrating that we can be so clinical against City, Spurs or Liverpool yet profligate against those teams around us.

This.

It's a real shame Pape needed another op recently 'cos he'd be banging on the door to start instead of PVA.

Where have you got this interpretation from? Read the post again and engage your brain.

Of course they're training, my question is whether the training is appropriate and working.

As you've identified that we have strikers who are proven goalscorers, who aren't scoring despite the amount of chances created it seems incredible that you haven't drawn the same conclusion as the logic necessarily follows.

You did not question the training. You made a statement.

Your words were '' The players lack confidence in front of goal because their training isn't up to scratch ''.

Perhaps you should read your own post again - with brain engaged of course.

I have to assume that you are privy to their training methods and are quite rightly calling Hodgson and Lewington out for their lack of attention to detail when it comes to finishing the many chances our play creates.

Here's another way to look at it.

How many past seasons have we seen us have quite a lot of deficiencies and we hope we can graft enough or be lucky enough to get away with it and stay up?

Now we play good decent football, exciting to see us on the attack and the only deficiency is putting it in the back of the net.

For so long we couldn't create chances and now we tend to create a lot especially against those teams around us.

I believe it will come and will be the final piece clicking into place. Maybe Michy will be that piece and when it does click think how prolific we could be!

Totally agree with this. If we think back to when we stayed up under Pulis (and Allardyce) we did it by being dead tight at the back, not losing much and winning by the odd goal here and there - creating very few chances in the process.

Personally I think it's only a matter of time before it all clicks, we have a relatively settled team. Just needs the right formula/tactics in the final third (and maybe a tiny bit of luck!)

I agree there is nothing wrong with the training, we are playing some of the best football, since being in the Premier. We are not a push over for any team. The defence is sound apart from the occasional aberration from PVA, midfield covers a lot of ground, but could be a bit more creative. We are creating loads of chances up front, it’s only a matter of time before it clicks, people can complain when we are creating chances. Benteke is a good striker with ability, as his over head kick against Fulham showed, just not getting the rub of the green.

We sure create chances and are not that shot shy. I am sure the attacker pratcice scoring goals it is their trade. You saw how much it mean't to tekers when he missed he smashed his fist in to the pitch in utter fruastrtion as to the lad wickham look how much it mean't to him. Bats we shall see but I would expect the same reaction to scoring/missing it is their trade. Now Roy knows to win matches you have to make chances, which his team/our team are doing. If he could fathom why strikers miss he would surly fix it. But football isn't like that is it. Its chaos and its the chaos we love. look on the bright side we're still in it and fighting what more can expect.

Any insults regarding my opinion'engadging brian etc please reffer to bin
