I have been reading some of the other threads in this section and one thing stands out above all other. That there really is a hard core of posters here who represent all that is wrong with our current political scene. The subjects may vary but the approach is constant. You see the same kind of thing now in a variety of places. Trump and Brexit has loosened the tongues of those who previously felt restrained by knowing that others perceived their views as extreme.

I thought that the UK had managed to become a tolerant place where otherness wasn't something to be scared of and that no one group felt superior or entitled.

My own parents were terribly racist, but they came from a generation which didn't know any better. How has our education system failed so badly that the attitudes that I grew up with, but learned to overcome, are still openly present in society?

I read all the justifications and reasonings, which I guess those writing them truly believe are real, but it seems very clear to me that something much more basic lies underneath.

So the OP was right to ask the question he did. I am ashamed to say I think it is correct.

Maybe by 2050, when the UK's population is forecasted to have around 20% of the people with mixed blood in their genes we will start to see a kinder, more compassionate nature start to emerge. Of course we all have mixed blood already, but the new blood comes from further away.

I won't be here to see it, which is unfortunate, but I don't want my grandchildren to be growing up in this poisonous atmosphere.

There is a lot I could say on some of the other threads as some of the comments have been outrageous but I won't. There is no point in ever arguing with such attitudes. You must expose them to others and then allow them to destroy themselves.

Shame on you though. Maybe I should find 7 members from here and 3 from the BBS and go form an independent forum where common sense prevails and extremism is relegated to the history books.

That's the beauty of living in a democracy. There is nothing stopping you from doing that.

You say there is no point in engaging and then you write this condescending waffle.

Ok just go and form your forum, it sounds really exciting...bye bye. You won't though will you.....Instead you'll just waffle and spend your time occasionally displaying your self perceived moral superiority to others with posts like this.

Personally I don't care what you think and even less what you do. If you don't like Hol, nothing is keeping you here.

Great post and agree every word, you'll probably get responses telling you to go somewhere else but I suppose your points about ignorance responded with more ignorance reinforces your point

I do wonder though if actually it's more of an internet phenomenon, people seem to be outraged and emboldened but from the relative safety and anonymity of their PC. They sing the praises of characters like Tommy Robinson but wouldn't dare do so in public in or attend a rally. Spending your life typing on football message boards is hardly Standing up for what you believe

What you have been afraid to put is that racism is rife as you dont know how to!
You are so so wrong.
I was at school on the 70s and i know how bad it was.
I was at selhurst with1000s singing zigger to john barnes.
I now know it was wrong as im more educated along with many millions not ever will i condone it.
Ref muslims.
You fail to see the fear in people.
Who is next to get shot, stabbed or blown up.
Me , you , our friends or family.
The insignificent minority around the world
is 15-25% who would gladly do this to you.
That is up to 300,000,000.
It took 19 of these to kill 3000 people on 9/11.
It took 1 to kill 22 in manchester.
I need not list the rest.
That % is the same per population the world over.
Fear creates the effect and negativity around this race.
When the majority face off the minority as above is when thought around muslims will change.
Also the gang killings is mainly from black kids killing black kids.
I feel for those families but again its the culture associated with the colour.
We comment on it as its in our face and everyone gets blamed for not doing enough.
That starts behind the front door.
Not at school or in your bank account.
Its easy to blame everyone else.

You love chipping in with ironic posts.
Absolutely no self awareness.

I don’t remember John Barnes getting racist abuse. There were a few black lads in the Arfur singing area. One was on Press Gang with Dexter Fletcher on itv. It happened at other grounds but not Palace. You were more likely to have gazza get fattist abuse, and he did. He picked up and ate a mars bar thrown at him.

John Fashanu did get whistles and cooeys days after Justin came out as gay in the press. He scored that day.

I don't remember it at Selhurst either. But there were stories of people chucking bananas at him elsewhere - whether they were true or not, I don't know.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Very tolerant.

No-one should ever respect or tolerate racism or the attitudes that spring from it.

It ought to be a red line in every society that wishes to be respected itself.

Because it didn’t happen at Selhurst. He did have bananas chucked at him but I don’t know how many times it happened.
