You make it sound like they went down mainly because of their FA cup run which is highly questionable. Originally posted by Willo
I have been in conversation with a chap who is very knowledgable about football, regarding teams who have got to an FA Cup final and then been relegated in the same season. Wigan are the only team to have actually won the FA Cup and been relegated that season.That was back in 2013 and they have never returned to the PL.Portsmouth got to the final in 2010, were relegated and have has spells in League One and League Two.They have not returned to the top flight.Brighton got to the FA Cup final in 1983 and it too them over 30 years to get to the PL ! All these supporters had their day out in the sun for the final but one can only speculate as to whether this was any compensation for the heartbreak of relegation. What baffles me is that you can't see that that the FA cup at any time is a distraction for Palace survival, that at the moment hangs on a thread. I don't think it is a majority though. When I'm grey and old and look back on my years of supporting Palace they won't be defined by whether or not we were relegated from the Premier League in 2019 - just like the 90s and '05 are largely insignificant now. But they would be if that were the year that we won the FA Cup. Without doubt my standout Palace moments are the 90 Cup Final - mainly because I was a kid and it was like nothing I'd experienced before, the Cardiff play-off final, beating Watford at Wembley. Because we actually achieved/won something, or came so close. To win the FA Cup would be the standout achievement in all the years I've supported Palace. It's naive to think that we'll remain in the Prem forever so relegation is inevitable and forgettable. Winning a cup is a lasting legacy.

I will support Palace as I have done all my life, in any division they happen to be playing in. If you don't want to go to games if we are in the Championship then I question your loyalty.

Not sure we are nothing without the premier league and if we never give the cup a serious crack when we get the chance what痴 it all about. We could easily try our hardest to stay in the top tier and take the cup very lightly but still mess up and get relegated so can稚 we just give it a go when we are at our strongest and have a bit of belief we can stay up. Hopefully there is only one place left for relegation so it not looking to dire atm.

Chance of meeting 3000+ miles team in any draw (elimination or group) will not be more than 5%. If we assume 3 point is lost in the league for this, that means the risk of 3 point loss is 5%. It should not be a deal when Palace lose average of 60 points every year. 5-6 game extra is extra challenge for sure and can be painful during October-November, i don`t deny that. But what i fail to understand is what is the pre-requisite to accept this challenge? Or the doors to accept this should be closed at all? Just asking.
