Beyond mental

It is obvious to anyone with a brain larger than a pea that the unnatural restrictions put on priests causes them to often behave in a particular way. It also encourages certain types of individual to sign up to it.

Allow priests to marry and have sex whenever and with any consenting adult they please and the problem will be reduced to that of the average population.

The same probably applies to Muslim rape gangs minus the racial and misogynistic elements.

Thereís absolutely no scriptural requirement for priests to be celibate/unmarried. Indeed, St Peter was married and had children.

I think itís because of a mixture of a desire to separate the clergy from all earthly considerations and to establish a degree of separation between ministers of the church and the holders of temporal power (kings, barons, feudal lords etc). As a result, itís tended to attract predatory individuals of a homosexual tendency and giving ready access, as a Ďtrustedí individual to young children (choirboys, altar boys etc) to those whose inclinations are considerably more sinister.

I canít understand why this rule hasnít been relaxed as its justifications, such as they are, are completely archaic. Over the years, the church has shifted its position on various issues to accommodate the times on numerous occasions. In the face of declining vocations and ordinations, Iíd suggest that itís essential that it does change the rules if it wants to continue its existence and might go some considerable way towards repairing its deeply tarnished reputation.

I'm not sure that the desire to abuse children is something that develops due to celibacy, it's more likely that the predatory paedophile is attracted to the priesthood due to the trusted position and easy and unquestioned access to children.

Regarding the muslim rape gangs, that's slightly different. The Qu'ran states that you can do anything you want to unbelievers and Muhammad was an actual paedophile as it is written elsewhere that he took a wife who was 9 when he was in his fifties. He did the gentlemanly thing and waited until she was 11 to rape her though. These rapists and their communities justify/turn a blind eye to their behaviour based on Islamic teachings rather than respect the law of land. Doesn't help that senior councillors and old bill are either in on it or too scared to act, but that's another thread.

I'd imagine that sexual deprivation is likely to make some people want to stick their knob anywhere they can.
It would also be more likely in an environment where such practices are 'overlooked' or become 'cultural'.

Prison is a fine example. All the men having sex with other men are not gay. I doubt all priests that sexually exploit boys were always pedophiles.

This is religion. When has it ever made sense?

The Catholic church is primarily a self serving venture. The answer to your question lies therein.

Yeah, not sure on any of that.

I've been on some barons spells, never considered abusing kids though! Most people have a w***.

As for the prison thing, willingly having sex with men makes you gay regardless of environment.

I think it shows that sexuality, like most behaviours, is on a sliding scale.....for example, how naturally aggressive are you, innate intelligence and so on.

I think most men who go to prison don't willing feck other men regardless of how horny they might get because they are on that one end of the scale....Straight....According to the stats, 1 in 20 are naturally gay....the opposite sex just don't and can't ring that bell.

I imagine that if you aren't 'straight' then prison is going to contain plenty of screws....in more ways than one.

Apparently they say more women are bisexual than men due to some biological reasons but I can't remember where I read that......Whereas men tend to be found at mostly the straight end of the scale or....about five percent at the other.....So there are less male bisexuals.

Yes but your expectation is to have sex at some point with an agreeable adult.

A priest does not have that expectation but still has sexual urges and available prey. If the practice of abusing boys is in some sense organised and even encouraged by elements within the priesthood then natural barriers that stop normal people doing such things could be eroded.

normal 'straight' blokes could live on an oil rig for 20 years and never ever feel the urge to abuse little boys.

Gays are normal people who are attracted to their own sex, and were born that way. Much akin to left-handed people...born that way and its the job of the rest of us to accept their differences.

paedo priests were paedo before they ever wore the holy cloth.

the vow of celibacy is a smokescreen.

the recruitment into the Catholic church seems to get the wrong'uns from every jurisdiction. Its a pity the reformation didnt wipe that toxic church off the map.

You might be right. I can't prove it either way.

It is an interesting anthropological question regarding the alteration of behaviour by environment.

Perhaps the 'fancy dress' and theatre involved in the Catholic Church is an additional attraction to certain
men. Just a thought.
