Who says so.
The victim.
The police.
The attacker.
I think even if it wasnt racially motivated; its goner be called so.

When I was a teenager living in Brixton one of my aunts was raped by a black guy.....was that a 'hate' rape or a rape? Lets transport ourselves into his head and decide....lets base it on what he said.....I've no idea but I know it ruined her life.

It's ridiculous, the whole situation is for dimwits. But identity politics is the road fools have chosen to go down so lets do it.

Jussie Smollett has now been officially charged with 'disorderly conduct' for allegedly filing a false Police report.

He could also be charged federally for lying to the FBI.

No. If you were attacked in the street because you were black it’s a hate crime.

Wrong. So a gay guy is attacked in the street. He was holding hands with his boyfriend 1 minute earlier. Was he targeted for that or was it just a random attack? Either way, he's going to tell the cops he's gay. Why? Because it actually 'MIGHT' be the reason, but he would also know that cops will be likely to take the crime more seriously. So the incident goes down on the hate crime records even if it's not solved and nobody knows the motive – hence a reason for the spike in figures.

And remember the Polish guy who died after a brawl in Essex in 2017? It was blamed on Brexit and the 'racist' country we had become – and it turns out that this 'hate crime' was no such thing. The media continually seek out hate crimes before getting the full evidence. LBC's James O'Brien was even saying Nigel Farage had blood on his hands. It's all pretty disgusting stuff.

Once he gave the ABC News interview it rang alarm bells across the board. Dave Chapelle called bulls*** early.

The 'gay tupac' narcissism and idea that someone would be shouting 'Hey Empire' like this guy was an A-lister. The attacker already wearing a mask while reeling off epithets. Cliched 'MAGA' comments. I'd never even heard of Jessie Swallocks. You can tell the guy's an actor and not a script writer.

It's worth fleshing out the usual racial and political tone though to add that the opposite has happened many a time.. the 'a black brute' killed my wife, when it turns out it was the husband all along, the 'gay panic' defense as a get out of jail card for anyone wanting to bash gay people up. Society lurches this way and that and you will always have unfortunate types with no impulse control who take advantage of cultural achilles heels.

It's pitiful stuff and I hope the guy is locked up. It could well result in people that have genuinely physically attacked thinking that they'll now be viewed with suspicion. He has done a disservice to all in one way or another. Pathetic stuff.

Like a bender I had originally misspelt his name in the title thread as Jessie MoFo.

I can see why you view it this way and I wouldn't disagree.

However....For me, I'm just glad that common sense won the day.

This guy is no different to most unethical guys on the make....He's getting it in the neck now but lets all remember that this fool hasn't killed anybody. In his head, he hates Trump and all his circle hate Trump and he wants to get on....So he's thinking how do I raise my profile.....So he comes up with a 'victimless' crime which just reinforces what he thinks is true anyway.

Personally I don't think he saw a wider context like you explained there, though I agree this kind of thing has an impact.

If he hadn't involved the Police then he would have just had his friends do the 'listen and believe' stuff...people in his circle would have accepted it and and it probably wouldn't have had that much coverage.

But apart from being a bit unethical he just wasn't bright enough to see the possible pit falls.

As we know....if something is possible then a human being is going to do it. So hoax crimes are just apart of the rich canopy of criminality.

I found the whole episode a rich seam of humour because of its ridiculousness and of how many 'woke' individuals on Twitter responded to it.

However, I'd agree, there is also a serious side.

True, it's easy to get caught up on the next bandwagon in town.

The two individuals Smollett allegedly involved in this plot were in deep water until they presented evidence that he'd persuaded them to get involved. They or some other poor sods could've ended up locked up due to him. Of course that didn't happen but would he have suddenly fessed up if it looked like they would? I have my doubts.

I'd agree that the stupidity factor ranks high as you say. The ISIS bride had that side to her too, in that she didn't appear to have two brain cells to her name and kept coming out with some real zingers

"He [Home Secretary Sajid Javid] has no proof that I'm a threat other than that I was in ISIS but that's it."

Yeah, a bit worrying that she was said to be doing so well at A level isn't it.

It's true, young Jussie, thought that these guys heading out of the country would mean the Police investigation would turn up nothing and that he'd be believed and have his profile raised.

He'd probably been watching too many poorly made TV dramas......he should have thought about the phone and that Police generally aren't so stupid as not to consider they are being played.

Once it started falling apart it does appear that he was willing to see others be charged for the attack....But I guess at that stage he was feeling the heat. So yeah, I take the point....He thought it was going to be a victimless crime....but it ended up endangering other people with the final victim being himself.

This is all fair and well lads, but I ask again: who the f*** is Jussie Smollett? I've read he's in Empire but I've never heard of that either!

Is it just me?!

I'd never heard of it either.....but then again we only get to hear about the major stuff I suppose.

I'm still watching 'Allo Allo' reruns.
