I found Sutton's comments interesting about training and how Roy was ahead of his time.

With most things in life, and people, there are highs and lows (cue me mentioning Harry Kane on corners).

There are many things I dont agree with regarding RH but he has us playing some excellent football lately. He is mostly not to blame that from games where have 28, 30, 25 shots we only score 1 goal or even none. His job is to deploy players and a system to create chances and limit them at the other end.

He has failed to improve some players like Sorloth, but has succeeded with others, such as Schlupp.

He is finally making subs and it is now patently clear that the lack of substitutions was sitting squarely and Parish's door, not Roy's.

All in all it is mightily disappointing that his speech at the end of last season has not come to pass (kicking on) but I think this is more down to the losses in our midfield ranks, coupled with abysmal finishing, than anything else.

If he is still around next season and assuming we have a strike force who can score goals this will be the best squad of players ever seen at Selhurst Park.

With those players another relegation fight would be inexcusable.

Peter Taylor as well, Trevor Francis, although he did give us 5-0 win against the weed and he did sign Andy Johnson, so I’ll let him off

Plus he was a legend of a player.

Roy has done a sound job.
The team looks well drilled and is always competitive and you can see evidence of the work on the training field.
However, we are only three points outside the relegation zone and there is a nagging feeling that we should be doing better with the available squad, which is up there with the best we have had in recent times.
I think it’s too easy to point to a lack of obvious goalscorer and feel that in many games we have been too defensive and not got enough players into the box as we are so rigid in maintaining our shape.
The perception for example that we can’t play Meyer with Zaha in the same team as it leaves us short defensively is bizarre.
Even assuming that the striker( whoever that is) does not defend, we would still have eight players in defensive positions as the other midfielders and Townsend are very disciplined in this regard.

Im sure that doesnt go unoticed and is appreciated.
Some games are boring though and in game management with roy can be lacking.
Everton away a prime example.
Lack of subs in time on at least this occasion pretty sure cost us points.

Missed pen on the hour at 0-0 when we were well on top with good possession and Jordan Pickford was MOTM.

..here we go again Kane has scored two goals resulting from corners both against Panama who could not and had not a clue how to defend.

Corners are overrated.

Yes, he is very badly wrong.

Maybe that washes once motivationally: "it's ok lad, you did as you were told and it didn't work out, we'll work on it for next time" but every week?

It's pure belligerence. Basically Wodgson and his staff are valuing obedience over talent as it protects their authority and therefore their jobs. There is some merit in this, but the balance should be loyalty and talent.

We would easily be top ten if he didn't wait 15-20 games for players to come good or just keep picking the same trusty carthorses over a bit of flare.

And in terms of respect within the game? I've heard plenty of ex players on podcasts and in the media who speak negatively about his style.

He's extremely one dimensional and predictable, no matter how good the passing and positional discipline has looked at times.

Following a game plan is what every single manager does and you can only be accurately critical at the end of the season after all the games have been played, we could still finish in the top ten very easily and that will cover your comment above in lovely scrambled egg.

Aside from his football tactics (of which I have no complaint except the same as everyone else about late subs), has anyone else ever noted how warmly he is greeted at the start of the match by virtually every other manager? Not just a shake of hands in passing, but always a hug, a pat on the arm and a few words is the norm, accompanied by genuine smiles on both sides.

I hope you're correct, table doesn't lie though.

As for 'accurately critical' only at the end of a season: how many games did FDB get? I'm all for reasoned debate, so try not to chuck in stuff like this. No manager gets weighed up at the end of a season and judged on the balance of things, otherwise Mourinho and Wagner would still be in a job.

Predictable line up, same tactics every week and no plan B to worry about, oh and more often than not they get the 3 points. What's not to love?
