Pep was lucky then.

So was Fergie - beating us in the FA Cup replay almost certainly saved his job and the rest, as they say, is history!

It may be apocryphal, but over the years I feel there's been a fair few occasions when defeat - or failure to beat - Palace has turned out to be the last straw for a manager. And so it is with Claude Puel.

Any recollections of previous post-Palace-match sackings? Does van Gaal count?!

Yes it does, it showed that they expected to beat us more comprehensively. I hated them even more after
this happened they won something we all would have practically died for and named Pardew a stand over and they just spat it out in front of us with a shrug and laugh.
I hate.

One bloody goal, I blamed that kit.

slightly off-topic but

"Greaves was dropped from the first team after playing in an FA Cup defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on 28 January 1970. He was never recalled to the starting line-up"

I recall going to that game. Think it was a replay and we probably won 1-0. Pretty sure Gilzean got dropped as well for a while

Yep you're quite correct regarding Greaves and Gilzean. The ironic fact at that time was we had failed to beat any London club in the league, but knocked Spurs out of the FA cup and Arsenal out of the League cup at Highbury.During that spell in Div1, I think the only time we did manage a London league derby win was against Chelsea, and then we got relegated.

Correct. Allison had just been signed up as our new manager and was sat in the stand for the match.

And a much more enjoyable one.

Gus Poyet, sacked by Brighton after we beat them 2-0 in the 2013 playoff semi final. And poo gate.

A very good call ^^
just remember Palace saving Alex Ferguson's job by losing the 1990 FA cup final

And a young James Cannon scored.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

I am afraid a tray of vodkas is not the ideal preparation.

Mind you, playing Palace at that time, perhaps it was........

a tray of vodkas reminds me of a certain George Burley's match preparation (allegedly)
I was at The Den when Palace got tonked and Burley was gone before we left the ground
