Having just offloaded Williams, Puncheon and Mutch I'd be inclined to disagree.

Player contracts are something he have a history of handling poorly.

I’m talking about clearly good and wanted desirable players here in Zaha an AWB, not some squad junk. Even Williams wasn’t paid that much and Mutch was never offered an extension. He was just a bad choice by Pardew. Puncheon was great for us but then lost form. That happens everywhere.

We’re talking about tying down quality players only. Parish is good at that. Getting that wrong can cost you dearuin one way or another. Transfer fees too low, Relegation.

I got laughed at not so long ago when I said that we would not be able to offload CB for free. Really it would be the best for everyone if he moves on but can not see anyone paying us a fee and paying him half what he is on now. We may need to sponsor his wages in which case we may as well keep him as a squad player.

How to pay young players is a delicate situation, West Ham have had a similar scenario with Declan Rice. £15,000 is comparatively low for a player of his significance, but we probably need to show him we have the same ambition and scope to develop as he does. They need the right motivation and development goals. What if he became another Jonny Williams?

Francis Jeffers
Ravel Morrison
Zeki Fryers
Micah Richards

There'll be hundreds of others who were in rapid decline by 21

Thankfully only another year of Benteke's wages from this summer. I can't see anyone paying a transfer fee for him, possibly the best case scenario is some Chinese or Middle Eastern side will entice him with a longer deal and we just cancel his contract.

Interesting philosophy and admirable however not generally accepted in our capitalist society is it?, Most of us will inevitably compare.
As for your apprentice: if he produces more for the company he should be awarded accordingly, possibly even more then the colleague with 10 years experience. I think you can not have players in a squad being key players who are on a fraction of the wages of players who barely feature.

I have nothing to prove the feeling, but I think for example Sanchez wages at Man U have contributed greatly to dressing room unrest. Players producing like de Gea for example naturally will want to be awarded accordingly.

No, I don't. Nobody else's wage is relevant to what you earn in your life.

Undoubtedly at this moment in time he is our best player. He's 19 and played 30 odd professional games. We've got a fantastic apprentice at work, should I put him on the same wage as a made up colleague with 10 years experience?

This is how teams end up with large wage bills that can't be sustained.

It would be more logical to look at Reidelwild and CB and say: this kid is on a tenth of what you earn so we're knocking down your wages to reflect that.

People talk about dressing room unrest... so how about Luka being on £55K a week and Max Meyer being on £125k a week. Or even Kouyate on £65k a week...I imagine wages are not discussed in the dressing room!
At the end of the 19/20 season he will just have turned 29. i would have thought a contract through to 2022 with a decent rise would be in order.
AWB is not a difficult one for me. Alexander-Arnold was on £12k a week as an 18 years old. He's now 19 on £50k a week!
Decent English right backs are in high demand, I can easily see another team offering him £30-40k a week now.

All very commendable and easy when it's not your money on the table.
