I don't believe it prevents crime it does save the taxpayer money. Who decides if it is a capital case? So I would need to see the practical steps as to how it would work but if reasonable I would be okay with it. However I would prefer tougher sentences like most people.

However I am a fan of hard labour and believe that all lifers should earn their keep in full by working on the roads, train lines or other capital projects. Sitting on your arse watching tv is not really punishment.

Any public sector work for example. Tending the flowerbeds in the Parks, sweeping the streets, painting public buildings. Prisoners who are not physically healthy enough to do manual work should be given data-entry type jobs. all good for the taxpayer.

In terms of putting prisoners to work......I would have thought it best to direct it towards charities.....though obviously all this has been considered and implemented many many decades ago. Edited by Stirlingsays (28 Dec 2019 5.42pm)
