I was reading about the problems with gang killings in Chicago and think there are some parallels here. In the 1960's, the single motherhood rate in Chicago (and the US) was around 18 per cent in the black community. Now it's more than 75 per cent, which does have a negative impact.

When being interviewed on LBC yesterday, Cressida Dick said yesterday that 62% of homicide victims are black, and that the number of black offenders is 'slightly higher when you look at knife crime under 25'. In 2011 blacks made 13% of the population of London, which means a roughly 500% proportional overrepresentation. This can not be blamed on a lack of police in the mind of a sane person. The culture from decades past of knock up a young woman or 4 and the new youth culture together with very little community responsibility is the reason and because the genie is out of the bottle they need to get tough on those young people breaking the law now and make sure the community take responsibility in shopping these people in and looking out for those not yet old enough to get sucked into this rubbish.

There really is a lack of discipline and respect when young black boys get together in groups. The last time I got a bus years ago I noticed how these individuals who wouldn’t say a word on their own felt so powerful in a group. Loud and unruly. There does need to be more police. I’ve seen some pretty shocking cheeky driving because there’s never any police around. But more police won’t stop a kid being stabbed by the garages or stairwell in a council estate, although more police would help round them all up to show the next wave of sheep it’s a worthless lifestyle choice, if there’s any gang members left by then to recruit them or to look good in their new nike air max. God it’s so pathetic. Think of the riots. They weren’t going out looting Tesco. It was Foot Locker and Curry’s. No morals, a different definition of respect, and not much chance of a solution with the under 13’s or whatever age if they don’t sweep up the current gangs and perpetrators. Edited by Rudi Hedman (05 Mar 2019 11.07pm) Sadly, I think there's little chance of the black community here standing together to sort the problem Firstly, as you say, we hear every time what a lovely innocent their boy was, had nothing to do with gangs, etc. etc. because as you say, on their own or around their families they behave in a totally different manner, so you have the denial that their child could be involved. Secondly, since the Stephen Lawrence/Damilola Taylor killings and the subsequent accusations of 'institutional' or individual racism on the part of the Police (the merits or none of which I'm not here to debate), in my opinion, I think that there is an increased attitude that this gang problem is 'not their fault' - playing the victim role themselves because it is mainly black kids involved and so there must be an element of racism from the police and authorities, schools are ignoring their needs and they lack equal opportunities because that's what they seriously believe. Instead of taking their opportunities, they prefer to go backwards and risk dying in some kind of multinational tribal warfare - because that's exactly what it is, tribal.

I have spoken to a few young people about Selhurst and they’ve called it a ghetto. A ghetto? They don’t know what a real ghetto is. This is because some like it to be more edgy. However, this was from people trained to defend themselves so I doubt they’ll be involved in any of this stuff, but you get from the description that young people in the area have a sort of pride in their area being edgy, on edge, a bit tough. That’s kind of okay in a way but not if you’re at risk of being stabbed. I told someone to walk away and he said he would fight anyone because he’s trained to be able to. He didn’t want to just run. Stupid boys. A knife can kill.
