We just seem content with a lot of sideways passing, playing the ball across the back, no-one has the ability to play a decent ball forward, or get the ball in midfield and drive forward.
Roy obviously said something at half time today, because you could clearly see Luka and McArthur starting to pass and carry the ball forward, but it’s just not their natural game. That’s why for me we always look a better side with Kouyate and Meyer on the pitch, but I think Roy’s plan is just to stay in games till the second half and then have a bit of a go, but as always, goals change games and Brighton’s second goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of us, just as we were getting on top, which happens a lot at home.

Good points. That was surely the time to be adventurous after we had got back to parity and stick on Meyer etc. for the tired legs ?

And that’s exactly the point. Roy just doesn’t seem to understand when is the right time to make changes. Other managers would see things are not going well and do something about it but Roy doesn’t.

I thought today there was plenty of times when brighton were pushed right up and we still tried to play it across the back. Batshuyai was pointing forward but at no time did we lob the ball forward like they did for their first goal. Dont understand it myself we just kept playing the same throughout the whole match - which in its self is a reflection of our home form this season, if not the last few.

Saw some lovely ball control, but no end product - a penalty is not a goal from open play.

There seem, to me, to be three problems:-

opponents come and park the bus - all the passing around the middle of the pitch needed to entice opponents away from their goal. Trouble is the passing game moves forward slowly, allowing opponents to get back behind the ball,

we do not seem to be able to deal with rotational fouling, with the referee seeking to prevent retaliation - our players get a sniff of the ball and fall over to slow the game - by this the referee slows our game.

Our players seem to be fair game for outrageous actions, like being flattened in tackles.

We need the middle to be controlled with the ball moving quickly from wing to wing and into an almost empty opposing penalty area, where one of our players is ready.

Meyer was stripped off and ready to come on and was just standing their for five minutes while Roy didn’t bring him on. In that period of time they scored and then Meyer comes on. Was so ridiculous. Not saying he would’ve stopped their goal but why have him ready and then wait five minutes.

Everybody at the game yesterday could see we had a lot of tired legs on the park. As soon as we got the equaliser and we were in control of the game which we were for about 15 mins, the subs should have been made. Roy makes reluctant and reactionary substitutions rather then preempting what is required to go on and win the game. You could see the Brighton players were crapping themselves when we equalised and they were totally on the back foot. That is when we needed to turn the screw.

True and last weeks changes maybe goes someway to proving my point . At home we go back to the same side every week

And we still need a striker

We have the squad without Sakho to get up the table to 10th, Its the set up and tactics at home that are the problem and that lies firmly at Roy’s door!

There's a debate to be had about Meyer, but when fit Kouyate must play. It's a no brainer.
The way Roy sets us up at home is clearly not working and against a team that's gonna sit back you need quality in midfield and a ball playing cb. Sakho missing is massive, a cb who can bring the ball out and who can thread a throughball. Something Batshuayi was screaming for all game, a nice early ball and a foot race. Sadly it never arrived.
Today was Groundhog day, tika-taka around the corners of the box, get to the byeline and pull it back into a crowded area. It's rarely worked this season, so why persist? When it does sometimes break to one of ours they refuse to shoot unless they have a totally clear path. The amount of fakes to shoot are ridiculous, can no one execute the Ozil scuff? Seriously guys we may get a deflection a ricochet that goes our way, have a dig, especially you Wilf.
We knew how they'd play and sadly they knew how we would. If he's gonna persist with basically three ratters and two big lump cb's then I'd have gone for Benteke long balls upfield and feed off the second balls. It would have been no worse than what we did.
Many are saying we were too complacent, but I didn't see that. I saw a team that was edgy, nervous, especially when we were behind. In the first half we were rushing around just to take throw ins for Christ's sake, we had no composure. Personally felt the crowd didn't help either. I know it wasn't great, but the groans made some players keep playing safe sideways and in the last 15 it made others try passes (PvA) that just weren't on to avoid the groans, but they sadly just produced bigger groans. I know it's hard to do, but like the team we lost our composure and actually resorted to abusing opposition players rather than back our own, something I personally hate hearing. Surely those loud Dunk chants would have been better being loud Palace chants late in the game.
Oh yes, finally. Set pieces. Do we have any plans whatsoever? Same taker, same try to float it in, same result. No gimmicks, no training ground routines, nothing.
