The main guy who did this wrote a manifesto and in it he states what he believe in. I'm not going to link to it but I'll make a point here.

We are getting journalists and politicians blaming the right for this murder. They are spreading lies.

Yet this guy in his manifesto says he isn't a conservative because he says conservatives are corporatism.

He describes himself as a Eco-fascist. he says he doesn't know whether he's a Christian or not.....blimey.

The guys manifesto was called ‘The Great Replacement’ and cites all of the same right wing ideas that you read on here in relation to Islam and immigration.

Quite how you, who routinely blames the left for everything and anything, can now say no blame should be apportioned to the right, is hypocrisy on a quite staggering level.

seconded. I vehemently disagree with Islams' thinking on gays, apostates, non believers, animal rights, freedom of speech, political violence, womens rights, etc etc.

But.... There are muslims with blonde hair & blue eyes. There are christians as black as Miles Davis.

to throw accusations of racism is ignorant. Religion is a belief system, which can be criticised in the cold light of day.

fundamentalism of all flavours begets violence. For sure the perpetrators of this latest madness in New Zealand were mental.

All religions are insane - including the christianity that may have driven this massacre.

Lets go moderate-secular all the way.

Christianity is NOT insane.

I'm a pagan and I'm sure, in the Bible, it says something about killing witches. (That wasn't meant seriously btw).

I think most people would just wish to express sympathy for anyone who has been murdered whist simply going to or being at their place of worship.

To the murderers I just wish eternal pain.

He must give his son so that mankind can live ? how did an all powerful god produce a game so rigged against Himself ?

He IS NOT a Christian. Christians, real Christians, followers of Christs teachings, DO NOT kill people. We turn the other cheek. Please Do Not tar us with the same brush as this evil scum bag.

If he had not given his son (who by the way conquered death) we would not have Christianity.

I do fear this massacre (saying tradegy suggests it was an accident to me) will mean yet more crackdown of open discission on radical Islam (e.g. this forum) and accelerate the introduction of Islamaphobia laws in the UK (which are as crazy as introducing a Catholophobia law). That would be very very bad for any remnants of social cohesion in this country.

Haven’t looked at the Guardian website today but I can imagine what the opinion pieces are going to look like in the coming weeks and months. They will be lobbying for a lot more than candlelit vigils I suspect. Their outrage only seems to travel one way.

Anyway RIP all this people and my condolences to the families affected by this. We do seem to live in an ever s***ter world and the people that run it need to be held to account.

I was just repeating what he said.....he obviously wasn't religious.

Of course Christians kill people, but I agree with you that its message is peaceful and that the story of Jesus is that of pacifism.

A sickening act.

I'm pleased I've criticised both religious extremism and racial resistance groups on here. It's all too easy online to plug into these fringe movements or to go down an us vs them road to radicalisation. This guy announced what he was going to do before posting his muddled and cliched 'white genecide' ethno state manifesto on a chan site, live streaming his heinous acts to anyone interested. It's important to see the dignity in all, not get warped ideas about who does and doesn't truly belong in their own country. The regular focus on genetic themed racial stuff that is suddenly ever present on here for instance is alienating, unhelpful and a rung on the ladder this leads nowhere pleasant.

Hrolf makes a good point about how violence begets violence. Previous attacks add weight to the likelihood of attacks like this, and this in turn will no doubt tip some religious radical over the edge. I've never been for mass immigration, making a country only about benefiting elites through cheap labour. It does have an impact on stability of a country and can cause friction within communities. Religion can complicate and result in insular communities that hold age old beliefs detached from that of the country. Possibly Brexit will put the breaks on things if it actually ever happens. Even if it does though, it's important to remember that at that point the country is what it is. People still have to learn to get along in peace and to try to find commonality rather than differences no matter how hard or futile that may sometimes appear. We see here what the alternative to doing that is.

To be fair the numerous massacres of Christians around the world probably do not help either.

For me it is a simple issue of this kind of attack being an assault on our civilisation. The right to both peacefully and safely worship are at the very heart of what any society worthy of calling its civilised.

I get why people are critical of Islam. A perfectly legitimate position to hold and proclaim. Ditto with Christianity, Buddism, Judaism and so on.

But people should assume an absolute right to peacefully worship without fear of attack or assault. The freedom of opinion and the freedom of worship can co-exist, and have to be strong core factors in how we all live together.

What happened in New Zealand was a disgusting act of terrorism. There can be no disagreement around that. And I hope the perpetrators(s) are punished to the 'nth degree.

And anybody who chooses to view the footage that is meant to be out there of this, needs to hang their heads in shame. We might not be able to do much as individuals to make this situation any better but we can deny the arseholes responsible for it the oxygen of publicity they so desperately crave.

Very fitting words. A violent attack on peaceful people is an attack on us all, because if it's not targeted at us this time, it may well be the next. All extremists are cut from the same cloth. I can think of little more cowardly act than attacking men, women and children in an act of prayer.
