I love Jimmy Mac - a great trier and a real asset to the club.

Having said that on Saturday he looked slow and laboured and Newcastle definitely won the midfield battle. Not sure the logic of giving him an extra year and improved contract (he was already on £50k a week)as I doubt he'll be anywhere near our 1st team in 2 years time (his contract runs to June 2021 now).

Also the offside was poor. Remember a few years ago away v Everton. He did the same thing - slow to come out and then waved a foot at the passing ball that was on its way in. He clearly hasn't learnt his lesson.

Even if he hadn't done so and just stopped still, I believe it would have been disallowed as he was right in front of the keeper and impeding his vision.

i get a feeling that Roy never wanted to sign Meyer, he has been so stubborn in playing him. there has been times when schlupp was terrible and still played ahead of him, his confidence must be shot!

Schlupp has chipped in with goals and as such provides a greater goal threat.Being left-footed he also provides a certain balance down the left.He also has the physical attributes which Meyer does not possess.Schlupp might not be a world-beater but Meyer has been disappointing.

Have to love Jimmy Mac, goes down a legend for me and has been a staunch servant for us. I always refer to him as ‘the Scottish Pele‘ of course a bit tongue in cheek however he does do some unexpected things sometimes!

Has looked a bit leggy of late though, feel as though his time is on the horizon. Would love for him to stay and be a squad/utility player but wouldn’t begrudge him a move. I would ultimately like our midfield to step up a gear next season without him being a shoe in every week.

Just my opinion however!

Jimmy Mac is a much better player. Considering they both similar in shape, Jimmy is a lot stronger and I think offers a lot more than Mayer. I’d argue schlupp offer more than Max in the midfield.

Jimmy Mac is still good enough to play a role in midfield, maybe slowing down a bit but we actually miss him when Meyer takes his place on the odd occasion.
If you watch the disallowed goal on Saturday then most players would be caught in that position, not a training ground move, just happened to fall at Tompkins feet from the defensive header from the corner who struck it first time.

Let's see SP and the board trying to line up for a piss in the AW toilets at half time before peddling the new stand. We're the Arthur over here and the facilities are a disgrace

Anyone at the last home game saw first hand what Jimmy is all about. He came on for Meyer at half time and transformed us. Great player to have at the Palace

McArthur fits Roy's system well as he is organised, snaps at the opposition's heels and pushes the ball forward quickly. On the downside he gives away a lot of cheap fouls and he no longer seems capable of being effective for 90 minutes. For me Schlupp is the bigger concern. Once again on Saturday a team targeted PvA and once again Schlupp failed to offer him sufficient protection. He seems to dangle a foot in the way and jogs back and only seems to come alive at the other end of the pitch. Look on the other side of the pitch and both McArthur and Townsend get back and help out AWB. When Kouyate plays he covers the pitch far more effectively and his passing is no worse than Schlupp's.

Meyer is a whole other matter. In the few occasions in each game that we play quick one-touch football he looks very accomplished, but aside from that so far he hasn't offered enough. He probably does need a run of games to give him a chance to find his way, but I'm sure there are plenty of players that would enjoy that luxury.

He indeed made a significant difference.Meyer looked totally lost and was ineffective.

There has been mention of McArthur unable to last the 90 mins, but alas he is 32 this year and playing in the 'Engine room' in the PL is very demanding.Perhaps in time he will be used mainly from the bench.

Pardew said of McArthur about 3 years ago that he was one of the most conscientious footballers around,he lives and breathes the game and is consuming with his fitness levels.
