Pardew Pl 87-w35-d13-l39 40.2%.
Hodgson Pl 76-w27-d17-l32 35.5%.
Hodgson with better players, who is better?

Try doing that with league results.

Pardew: p73 88pts ppg = 1.20. W34.2% L47.9%
Roy: p66 80pts ppg = 1.21. W31.8% L42.4%

Roy’s lost players, has had pretty much no money to spend, and inherited a team bereft of form, confidence, and had a huge injury crisis to deal with. He’s had no striker fit for the purpose either.

Pardew got to spend a fair amount of money, and had inherited a functional team with a lot of fight: which by the time he left was ruined and unfit.

Sam: p21 26pts ppg = 1.24.
Pulis: p26 38pts ppg = 1.46.

Sam got a bunch of money to spend, and results only truly improved when Sahko was in the team.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

The fact is that we have not spent enough money in the last two windows and we have gone backward. Our squad is flimsy as shown when we lose Sakho.

It always puzzles me why fans always blame the manager when the truth is so easy to see.

Hodgson does tend to play the negative game against the top teams but that is realism I suppose. He knows that our best chance to get something from those games is to play it tight and hope for a lucky break. When that fails, it looks awful like against Spurs and Chelsea but when it works like against City, it looks like a masterstroke.

It is very irritating.

Pardew achieved much excitement, this must not be overlooked ..for both sets of fans in almost every game lol

Players win you games, managers lose them. During the dreadful Pardew run I could not believe the amount of individual errors/missed chances that were costing us.
Rarely do I walk away from a win and go, ‘Roy Hodgson was excellent today.’

Pardew did brilliantly for a while and commanded a level of respect. The signing of Cabaye at a decent price was also big step for the club but he seems all over the place in terms of his personality and ability to maintain trust and respect. Roy is different class by comparison.

the stats don't show the bigger picture or can be tilted either way, what i mean by that is, whilst Roy is lower, i feel safer in Roy's hands (ohh lovely) and Pardew has amazing spells followed by crap spells. I dunno, it's an interesting debate, i think it boils down to - would we accept a swap of Roy for Pards, i can imagine a lot of us would say no!

I think if Pardew was able to keep Cabaye as the bench mark and we didn't need to break the bank for benteke then later Sako, i feel he jsut jumped the shark a bit and it damaged us, parish was to blame too.

A decent scouting network should have been #1 priority in 2014, that's our first mistake really.

Chalk and cheese.

Totally different people, and football managers.

Pardew is too far down one road, while Roy is too far down the other.

You need some of Pardew like having some guts, having a go at teams, and taking the shackles off.....

But you want a bit of Roy in there, solid shape when out of possession and well drilled.

You need to strike a balance. If we could strike that balance we could be much higher up the league table, and approaching an FA cup semi final.

You know what both are s*** at though? Coming up with a plan b when plan a isn’t working out, during a game.

Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha.

Pardew ripped the heart out of our team. He had no idea about sensible subs. And he lost every single game for about two years.
Huge difference between him and Roy. I've only just about recovered from Pardew.

One of those is an exaggeration...

This would not be the best undercard at the next Joshua fight.

Pardew's first year in charge was excellent, but eventually showed that he had no idea how to organise a team. We were an absolute shambles towards the end, especially defensively.

Hodgson has the opposite problem - overly rigid, inflexible, and cautious. Still, given a choice between the two, Hodgson will get you just enough to stay up whereas with Pardew it's a complete gamble.

^^ Wish we can mix the two traits in one. That would be my perfect manager. From what i remember, Pardew didn't know when to park the bus to protect a lead or secure a point. Whereas, Roy would be too defensive at times when the occasion calls for the opposite. :-)

Pardew got rid of Murray as thought he was past his sell by date. A mistake that has cost the club millions of £££ ... pretty sure Roy would never have done that!

This Murray thing has gone on for far too long. When we sold him the vast majority of Palace fans including those on these boards thought he was past his best and that the money we received was fantastic for an aging forward. You simply cannot run a football club on hindsight so whilst it has turned out that he has had a wonderful twilight to his career, you cannot say that another manager would have known this was going to happen.
