One thing to keep in mind is Parish doesn't like managers like Mourinho or Benitez who are very independent and like to do their own thing. It's the same reason he never went after Dyche a couple years ago. He wants someone that's gonna work with the vision HE has for the club.

Imo someone like a Daniel Farke would be the ideal choice - plays good football and good at bringing through young players. Obviously, he won't come to us now Norwich are going up, but someone in that mould would be ideal.

Basically, like FdB only not a stubborn prick.

So lots of people would like Roy to go but not many have a realistic replacement in mind. Here’s mine.

1. Chris Wilder (Sheffield United) best manager in the Championship by far.

2. Christian Streich (SC Freiburg) - almost a younger version of Roy doing wonders with a small club in the Bundesliga and has a good record of bringing through young talent.

3. Steven Gerard (Rangers) bit of a punt being so inexperienced but his playing career should command a great deal of respect. As our feeder club (Chelsea) May have to hold onto their players, Liverpool could be our go to club to pick up young talent and his connections may help us. Question is, is premier league with us more appealing than Europe with Rangers.

Definitely agree regarding Chris Wilder,i think Sam Allerdyce said he would be his choice to take over from him.

Not saying we should be in any rush to get rid of Roy but when he does leave why not give the job to someone who is young, hungry and probably looking for a managerial carrier. Knows the players and the club and wolves have proven a goalkeeper as a manager works. Would also allow Julian a job as goalie coach possibly?

Interesting thread.

I've still got a soft spot for Slavisa Jokanovic. I remember wanting him when Parish was trying to replace SA and hoping Fulham wouldn't get promoted so he'd be free.

I know Fulham had a poor season but I don't think its fair to pin it all down to him. He didn't have good enough defenders and they bought far too many players.

There must be other young smart managers out there - the thing is after FdB I think Parish will be very risk adverse when he makes his next decision. He certainly will not push Roy out after a mid-table finish.

About 15 years ago when he was still playing for Charlton, I met him at a golf club I worked at on a Saturday as a youngster.
I tell you this story as I can’t even muster an opinion on the farcical idea we’d consider him for the top job.

So many people on this thread saying that they want managers from the championship or the Scottish Premiership. Why would you want that. Roy offers us stability. To be fair I do agree that we should be far higher up the table and that we might benefit from a different manager. But that manager must be a step above Roy not below.

For Me,

1. Rafa
2. Laurent Blanc
3.Claude Puel
4. Slaven Bilic

Is Newcastle to Palace a different level?

I suggested Benitez because I think he has proved himself with no funds (and has obviously already done it with funds/big teams). So with our limited budget I think he could be the perfect manager and may even make players like AWB think twice about leaving

And for the record I really like Roy and think what he has achieved for us has been excellent. This is the first premier season where I have not been sweating over all the fixtures & permutations from the start of April

Ok home form has been a bit s***, but away form has been magnificent. We are Palace and I think mid table is currently our level. We wont get in the top six, so for me 7th to 10th is the target. There have been times this season when we have played the best football I have seen in my 44 Palace years

My only complaint about Roy is that he is too loyal to players not in form (e.g. Benteke or Schlupp) but he has limited options in our squad and players respect is critical for a manager.

Yes I would say that Newcastle are on a different level to us. Not the playing staff so much at the moment, but infrastructure, stadium, fanbase, history and global identity without a doubt. The only way I could see Rafa coming to us would be if the Americans sold to an Abramovich type. If that were to happen along with investment in playing staff, Trophies, European football and a giant leap in support, then we might be on the same level as Newcastle. Incidentally, I would hate for any of that to happen as I like being a smaller friendlier club.

There was quite an interesting discussion on 5 live about managers the other day suggesting that the top managers often only move clubs after a period of unemployment. Pep was on a sabbatical before going to City, Klopp was unemployed before Liverpool etc.

Clubs seem increasingly unwilling to shell out composure for managers despite being happy to pay big bucks for players.

So our next manager as indeed Roy was may not have a club.

Although not in my top three choices, one that I'd consider is David Wagner who as you say is currently without a club. He has some premier League experience and I have heard that he is respected amongst the sports journalist community. I would be slightly worried that he walked away from Huddersfield when the going got tough though.

If you were to read the sniping that goes on on this board on a regular basis and between different factions of supporters you would think we are anything but a friendly club, however I understand your sentiment.

Graham Potter would be a decent bet. Young and on the way up - ideal for Palace. If he can bring McBurnie with him so much the better.

McBurnie looks a bit strange but is developing into a really decent No9.
