Now this may sound strange, but if you also went to away games during the 80s, do you remember an elderly, white haired Palace supporting lady always screaming ‘come on Palace’ throughout the whole game.

It didn’t matter how we were doing, she always screamed really loudly and was a bit of a ‘character’ amongst the Palace fans.

A bit of nostalgia or craziness - I’m not sure! Wonder if any of you reading this remember her or have any info to share?!?

OMG! Since I joined HOL 5 or so years ago, I've wanted to mention the "Come on Palace!" lady and ask if anyone remembered her, but I assumed people would think I was nuts. (Is he seriously asking about someone who used to shout 'Come on Palace' at Palace games, er that narrows it down a bit......I could hear people saying).

I can't tell you how engrained her voice is in my memory and I'm so chuffed to learn that I'm not alone in my madness. Yes her voice was very prominent at away games, but also at Selhurst Park. I distinctly remember one game where a dire Palace performance (there were SO many in the early 80s) had sent the crowd into virtual silence. Then that silence was broken by a rousing "COME ON PALACE!!!" which got the biggest cheer of the day by far.

On another occasion (sadly I can't remember in detail) we were actually trouncing someone, and at a rare lull in the decibel level after another Palace goal, up went the shout "COME ON PALACE" which was followed by raucous laughter at the irony of the outburst. Classic.

Sadly I don't know anything about her, but she certainly did follow the Palace through thick and thin, and was celebrated by the Palace travelling contingent. I'm sure she will have been mentioned in 'Eagle Eye' but sadly I didn't retain my collection. I wonder if there is an archive anywhere.

Her shout had a very distinctive accent, but quite a difficult one to 'place'. My recollection is that it was 'northern' and possibly Scottish, but it was quite a while ago to be able to remember. I can hear the accent so clearly in my head but I can't identify it with certainly, if that makes sense.

Joyce the voice. Palace legend.

If she was behind you, you moved!

Legend has it that at Grimsby a group of local hoolies tried to give it as Palace came out of the ground

She waded into them with her brolly!!!

First taken to a match in 1977 by a mates Dad as my old man was a Hammer. First match on my own was the Burnley promotion game we went as a group from school ( none of us told our parents we were going we all said we were going to a cheapo steak house in Croydon.

Been hooked ever since highs of Wembley and Cardiff lows too numerous to mention.

A few scraps and scrapes along the way including the dubious accolade of being slashed by a Birmingham fan dressed in full clown attire

The last league game of the 88/89 season was it?

I have been an avid supporter since the 60s and have witnessed our team perform from all 4 sides of the ground.
I have been on the 'Snakes & Ladders' journey and I still recall the chants and songs from bygone days.
I have also purchased peanuts from the 'Peanut Lady', Mrs Minchella who used to trade on the Holmesdale Terrace.
Rattles, Fedora hat, rosettes, scarves and bobble hats all now stored away safely under lock and key !

My first Palace match was 27th March 2004, away to West Brom but I can't say that i remember too much about that game. I was 9 and my Dad worked for the club at the time and that's when he started taking me to games. My first match at Selhurst was a home loss to Everton in the 04/05 season.

My favorite game of all time would either be the play-off final vs. West Ham in 2004. I remember the Palace coach that I was on breaking down on the way to Cardiff. Shipperley tripping the ball into the net. Or of course, the other obvious choice would be crystanbul.

Worst match - Charlton away 2005. enough said.

I don’t know the exact year or game but I was taken by my older brother when I was 9 or 10. That’s 68 years ago. I stood on the Holmesdale Terrace and could walk to the Whitehorse end if Palace were attacking that end. All but the stand were open. My early favourites were Alfie Noakes for his 100% effort, TonyCollins for his trickery, Johnny Byrne for his class.

As a teenager I cycled from Beddington and left my bike in one of the front gardens on Holmesdale Rd for 6d. I was one of the boys who banged the advertising boards to Glad All Over, making it “our” song. Such a journey, 3rd Div South to the 4th, 3rd, 2nd, then that glorious day we first played in the 1st. Iwas there, to watch us draw with Man U and see our new striker, Gerry Queen, score, which the defunct News of World led their back page with “Queen scores at the Palace”.

One of longest serving players during those years was Terry Long, who became a neighbour of mine in later years and with whom I had many Palace chats. I also got to know Brian Lewis quite well.

Then the yo, yo years, too many memories to relate, many shared with previous posters here.

Now the most stable time I can recall, with the academy looking great and the ground finally looking to be improved.

It’s quite a journey and one I am proud to have watched and felt part of.

Mrs Minchella used to trade on Whitehorse as well.probably had more bags of peanuts stolen than she sold. Years later, ended up working with her nephew at Gatwick.

My first game April 1961, 1-0 win against York City. Went with Grandad, as dad was posted abroad.
One of my best memories of SP…. playing there as a 10 year old, in the Croydon Primary Schools Cup Final, we won 1-0. I remember I could hardly walk for a week afterwards
