Wardy is a squad player and a good one, once he lost his right back slot to AWB that was it really. He will pick up an injury and then we are really in the s***!

I still can’t believe we didn’t sort this position out, it wasn’t like we didn’t have enough time...

How can you be in the bottom three with nine other clubs?

Football squad kerplunk. Parish likes to test himself and the manager on this, then spending the money or more on the position in January anyway, after we’ve lost points that’ll damage our league finish.

Not pleasant watching Wan Bissaka fitting so easily into the Manure team of superstars this afternoon. To think we had our £55m for him five weeks ago, and still couldn't buy a replacement in time. SP programme notes yesterday full of platitudes and not a word about what wrong on transfer deadline day. I think he owes it to us to be frank about how and why they missed buying a striker and an RB, instead of pretending that everything went well.

so he was a really good squad player, and got his 1st injury in a few seasons, he was pretty much ever present for a number of years before that.

why isnt he good enough, because he isnt as good as AWB? we cant get another play as good as AWB, thats why he moved for £50m.

joel ward is a premier league quality RB, he has proved this over 5 seasons.

I tend to agree with you.

Having been a regular for five premiere league seasons it’s hard to deny Ward isn’t a premiership standard player.

Wards first couple of seasons even had some calling for an England cap. Trouble is every season the premiership get better and better and if you stand still you go backwards.

Yes he can do a job (and did on Sat) but having witnessed AWB it shows the level we should be aiming at.

Like the man and always impressed by his attitude though.

No I said “ he is and still a good squad player, if he gets injured we have a problem” If he was better than AWB he would have reclaimed the right back slot. As it stands we do not have adequate cover in this position, you wait until we start playing some of the tastier teams, then come back with a point...

Everton are a considerably tasty team already though, watch them put 4/5 past some teams this season, we did admirably defensively against them and given our doom and gloom outlook before the match I will gladly take a 0-0 draw (at home) against them, ward was also testiment to that clean sheet. I agree if he gets injured we're in alot of trouble but while fit I have confidence in him to do a job against most teams in the league.

i dont need to wait til we play the top 6, i have said many a time over the years that whereas joel ward IS a decent PL standard full back, he does sometimes get torn a new one by the very best in the league, i accept thats going to happen.

AWB however does not get torn a new one, infact teams decide to give up attacking his side, and concentrate on PVA’s side of the pitch...which then means PVA gets unfair stick for our fanbase, something i am sure will happen at UTD with luke shaw this season.

however that last paragraph is largely irrelevant as we cannot sign a full back as good as AWB, so lets support & get behind what we do have.

The ideal way to play AWB is to pass it round him. His positional sense is still not that great and he relies on his speed to get back into position. Ward reads the game better but doesn't have the speed. Give AWB another year or so and he will be the finished article.
