OK, so West Ham, like us, are prepared to pay the required fee for this guy when Newcastle weren't. That's OK. If nobody else wanted him then I'd be concerned that he wasn't very good.

Beyond that, I don't want us drawn into a bidding war. We know what we think he's worth in fees and wages, and have shown willingness to pay the exorbitant market rate plenty of times since promotion. The value is not always the same as the price however, and the wise man walks away when that happens.

If West Ham come blundering in offering him 100k pw then I trust the club to withdraw from proceedings, and to continue to ignore those supporters who will equate such an outcome to palace fecking it up.

I can only presume those people believe transfers are done by way of bundling a player into the back of a van.

Some do seem to have an over-simplistic view of the processes involved, 'tis true.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

I disagree. I think it has more to do with adding an extra player on Football Manager to ease a transfer, or buying the game editor to simply make Messi move to Palace for 1 pound. It’s just like real life.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

To be fair the whole Tim Cahill / David Nugent at Sainsbury's jokes were getting stale. Needed a facelift for the new decade.

Firstly, and I say this every window, please don't believe bookies transfer odds. They are bollocks. I know because I used to set them. They are just guesswork influenced by weight of money and news reports. Case and point, Higuain was once 1/50 to go to Arsenal before signing for Napoli.

Secondly, lots of West Ham fans on Twitter concerned that his agent is using them to get more wages out of us.

I think in the PL the less attractive team with less money walks away. If you want the best players you have to pay a little more than the rest.

If West Ham come blundering in offering him 100k pw then I trust the club to withdraw from proceedings, and to continue to ignore those supporters who will equate such an outcome to palace fecking it up.

You have taken a very aloof stance towards your fellow Palace fans here which is wholly unfair. Given that we never know the full story behind any transfer then how can we possibly know whether or not the managementhave fecked it up.

I can only presume those people believe transfers are done by way of bundling a player into the back of a van.

Oh wait......they have David Moyes and did win the World Cup, so I’ll go there.

And they do play the West Ham way

To be honest I doubt whether the stadium atmosphere figures very high in a footballers decision but there is a rumour doing the rounds that new acquisitions get to shag Moyes's daughter which could be the clincher
