July 2019, Clyne sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in a pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund.

After having made no appearances during the 2019–20 season due to continuing injury problems, on 25 June 2020 Liverpool confirmed that his contract would not be renewed and Clyne would leave the club.[33]

Haven't we got enough crocs. If he wasn't a former player, this thread would bd a lot different..

At his best he was an extremely good player, who Roy knows and worked with. Palace will give him a rigorous medical examination. If he passes that, and shows good form in trading, he could be a snip?

We currently have a number of defensive injuries, if Clyne is fit signing him is sensible. If he’s close to his pre injury best he will be first choice, if not and he’s still good enough/fit enough he will provide cover. The question is how fit/good is he and how long until we get other players back, hence Roy assessing first to see if we need to sign.

He played 3 games 17/18, 18 games 18/19 (14 on loan), 0 games 19/20.....even if he passes a medical do you think he going to be fit enough to play? We have ward, kelly and Ferguson when fit. Must be better uses for a squad number.

Ings was quite the sick note before Southampton revived him. Look at him now.

If I had the time I'd write you a very long list of sick notes that haven't been 'revived'......

When it comes to defenders I trust Roy.

He will take a good look at Clyne and decide if he is fit both mentally and physically, if he is why wouldn't we sign him. We are always moaning about lack of depth.

One more point

Roy when asked about Nat Clyne in his presser today:

There's no rush. We don't have a timeline, that might be decided by him - he might say I've got this club who have offered me a contract, what are you going to do?

I think he's still happy to be getting his playing standard up to the level he knows he can reach, and the level we want to see from him.

He's done two sessions with the team, it's still early doors but I'm happy to be working with him and I'll be talking with him.

If he was Under-21 there'd be no doubt, but he's over age and that affects the squad numbers.

I have bolded the interesting point. As someone said earlier in the thread we have Ward Kelly and Fergie, so not sure a released older player suits us.

I think this signing works for us as we are kind of the ‘good guys’. Clyne has had his injury struggles and was poor at Bournemouth after Liverpool shopped him out on loan.

We have come in offered him a chance to get fit and play for a contract here. He knows the club, he knows some of the pros and he knows the coaches and how Roy plays.

We need cover, but more than that, if he gets back to the level he is capable of, he could easily challenge to be a starter. Especially with Ferguson being able to play CB and both sides of full back. Who knows where he will settle as a defender.

If we can shift out Innis and Woods on loan then we should find a spot for him especially with Ferguson and Mitchell not having to register.
