Says in the BBC gossip today that Jay Rod has a 5m release clause, at 29 years of age we’ve got to be interested for that sort of price?

Slowly slowly catchy monkey

Its a good price but we cant afford to take him on, if Wickham was leaving then we could but we can't keep bringing in guys with poor injury records.

.... though with his 'poor injury record' (a long term ACL injury back in 2014 which caused him to miss an entire season) he has managed 123 appearances and 39 goals for Southampton and WBA over the past 3 seasons.

Played a lot this season.

Be silly not to go for him at only £5mill.

You could spend a lot more money on Maupay and he gets an ACL after two weeks. We should stop worrying about injuries. You can't always plan for them. Look at Yannick when he left.

Not good enough. Second striker position is the most important in the team, as far as I'm concerned. If you don;t have a good enough goalscorer there, you fail in your goals. Ok, maybe Rodriguez could do ok for 1-2 more years, but he's getting old and his feats are not what they used to be. You don't promote another player, you don't bring in financial incomes for the club, you don't have prospects to sell and you're stuck with a player who just doesn't score or assist enough from that position in the PL.

It doesn't matter how cheap he is. Plus.....that position requires some faster striker than the center forward, someone who runs into spaces, who presses and harasses defences, who draws back to defend and fights a lot. I don't see someone like Rodriguez fast enough, especially as he has been through some serious injuries.

I agree with the general thrust of these comments, accordingly Matteo and I are on the same page on this matter.

Whenever I saw Rodriguez last season, he lacked that burst of pace and looked quite pedestrian at times.About 5 years ago he was out for over a year with a serious cruciate ligament injury, then he sustained an ankle injury which sidelined him for about 5 months and perhaps these have taken their toll.Like Matteo I don't think he is good enough at PL level.

the criticisms of Rodriguez are justified but I've always had a hunch he'd do well in a team with Wilf. his strength is his movement in the box, and awareness, and that is the type of striker Wilf needs with him.

I actually think Andre Grey would also shine for us. Similar to Rodriguez, but sharper and pacier with more bite.

But what this mostly makes me think is that we must resolve the Wilf situation early one way or the other. no transfer after a fixed date of our choosing.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.
