This was a deal done with Osbourne in return the BBC had guaranteed increases in the TV licence over the period of the deal. The BBC was quite happy to accept the money knowing that this was coming. The BBC is now sounding like Mrs May that this is the only deal available when quite obviously it's not. The BBC has spent a fortune on its new headquarters and on the EastEnders set not to mention above inflation pay rises for its staff. Nice work if you can get it. They could make savings they also could have said over 75's pay a lesser amount say £50. My guess is that the BBC is hoping the public backlash will be towards the government and not them. I hope the public point the finger at them. There are plenty of areas they can save. BBC News 24 is watched by no one and is the BBC's response to CNN. You can still retain the news and key shows like 6pm and 9pm news and the BBC news website you do not need an on air 24 channel that no one watches. Try finding out the viewing figures. Then there are the major sporting events like the Olympics and the World Cup. These are largely a jolly for BBC staff who have no need to be there. You could probably half the number of staff who go and the public wouldn't even notice. With these major events the host countries provides TV studios as part of the deal. This is not good enough for the BBC they always build their own studios why? The rest of the media should explain to the public exactly how the BBC spends its money. I have a suggestion as to the BBC saving themselves a bit of money on wages in my region. I'm in the Anglia region, and they have two Muppets reading the local news on Look East at 6.30 in the evening. Now, on the BBC national news at 6.00 they have the one news reader who does the job just fine for half an hour. The two Muppets struggle to report any decent news for just under half an hour on Look East.

I watch it - sometimes It's a useful channel when BBC2 abandons it's normal programming in favour of snooker / tennis / what have you so I switch to that channel for the news.

I would actually struggle to name the last programme I watched on a BBC channel. Not sure if I have used the BBC for at least 6 months if not longer? If I want some background noise then Dave or Comedy Central tend to be my go to channels. With Netflix, Amazon Video and Sky putting out such decent content, I think they've all killed the BBC.

Why feel sorry for a group sitting on much of the nation’s wealth? There is no reason it should not be means tested. Just like NIC should apply to all. We need to be fair to all generations, not just One group
