NATO aggression! You just called the West degenerate and weak, now you call them aggresive when they have been anything but. What a strange world planet Palazio is - and the planets of the rest of the Putin apologists on here.

All that is important is that we don't get nuked and that he pays a military price in Ukraine.

However, I don't want cold war 2 as I think that's more of a disaster for us than you realise. At some point I want us to pull Russia away from China, with or without Putin.

Different, but not totally unrelated, subject.

I didn't want Cold-War 2 either, but we have it, and it will likely last as long as Putin lasts, unless we bottle it. It's going to be a disaster, certainly in the short to mid-term, but could be a bigger disaster if we appease Putin again.

I don't think we will have to pull Russia away from China. The Chinese are pragmatists and will calculate where their best interests lie. They may source raw materials in Russia, they do that everywhere, but supporting them politically I cannot see happening.

In the meantime, and this is where it is related, we must ALL keep up the pressure, and that includes the right not offering him quotes he can use at home as propaganda which props up his regime. Self-restraint is demanded. Who knows? One of the accounts here could be a Kremlin clone. Any guess which it might be?

What kind of crap is that? I suppose you think that we should have voted Remain just so Putin couldn't use that.

What you are saying is quite ridiculous. The truth is the truth, no matter who says it. I know you have little experience of telling the truth, but know this.

I don't care what Putin says, true or not. He is the enemy.

We will live or die together depending on the outcome of all this, and our ideologies won't mean a damn thing.

I think what finally turned Putin mad, was spending too much time on football-related internet forums. I hear he is pretty prolific on the BBS as well as running several HOL accounts where there are strong rumours he holds Moderators privileges. See how his power-cravings know no bounds

You're a social liberalism apologist.

Larp as a conservative and turn out to be one of them.

Here we go again WE calling for censorship.

Putin's people will pick through anything public figures say and spin it to their advantage, by the way we do the same with his lot.

Far from calling for self restrain (I call it censorship) we should celebrate diversity of opinion.

People like Corbyn and Abbott if not pro Russian are certainly lukewarm at best in favour of the west. I have no problem with that and would make a virtue out of the multiple and contradictory voices on this matter.

You fight Putin's propaganda by telling the Russian people in the UK we don't haul people off to jail just because we don't like their opinions.

I am actually against shutting down RT as I think it is an infringement on freedom of speech. The most powerful of messages would have been to let it continue pouring out it's bilge. Instead we gave Putin the opportunity to shut down the BBC in retaliation which he would have done anyway but we gave him an excuse.

Anyway if we all keep quiet and don't say anything maybe the nasty Putin man will go away

When your enemy is not just censoring what appears in the media of their own country, but spreading lies there, and in ours, you have little choice other than to respond in some way.

Some people seem to be in denial. We are at war. Not a hot war, but a cold war. A war in which the flow of information is critical.

When at war, different rules apply. No-one likes censorship. It should be avoided wherever possible, as there are obvious dangers in restricting free speech.

However, nothing is completely free, and completely free speech already doesn't exist. It's a myth. There are already laws which prohibit expressions which encourage illegal behaviour.

Nevertheless, if the only place these messages of support for Putin's "views" on social democracy and liberalism, were in our own space then, distasteful though they might be, I would have no wish to restrain them. They aren't though. They are being used by him as examples of how he is supported by the "people" of the west, and his own people are being taught to believe it's only the west's leaders who are against him.

My call is for people to understand the damage they are doing and show self-restraint in these circumstances. Not doing so is both irresponsible and unpatriotic. It won't stop Putin, but it would make the job of getting the truth known easier. Only a small step maybe, but small steps are all we as individuals can take, and small steps are better than no steps.

I agree about RT. I would much rather they had not been banned, or at least only AFTER the BBC had been banned in Russia. In much the same way I would not have withdrawn PL broadcasting or selling McDonalds. These are small opportunities to squeeze elements of the truth under the guard and start people asking questions.

That's the point. We are at war. Remember what our fathers and grandfathers were taught, "Careless talk costs lives".

No we aren't.

You just spend your time doing Walter Mitty impressions.

An undeclared cold war maybe, but this is as close to war as I ever want to see things get, and our behaviour ought to be predicated on that basis.

The whole of the west needs to pull together against a common enemy. No exceptions. The response so far has been impressive from the vast majority. It's therefore a pity when some decide political posturing is more important.

You're the one joining in calls for economic war.....as though it isn't going to harm us considerably.

I'm for peace and de-escalation with the largest nuclear state on the planet.

There are no winners in a cold war, only losers....most of them being the poor.

I don't consider that an acceptable price to pay for avoidable wars made out of the hubris of elites.

Most of whom won't be affected by inflation and will be able to heat their homes and feed their children.

So forgive me if I don't cheer on your ridiculous stance.
