So we are buying him to warm the bench??
Even for a layman like me I didn’t think you tactically bring on a centre half to replace a centre half when its 20 mins to go.
Why have we done this when we need a right back and a striker far more than this.
Totally bewildered and underwhelming

Following Palace since 25 Feb 1978

8m for a very experienced defender who knows most of the people who he will be defending against.
Could be a lot worse for that sort of dough.

Amazed at the amount of negative reactions to this.

Yes he’s 33, reportedly on big money and we’d have preferred a younger signing with potential/future resale value however we desperately need another centre half and he’s got proven experience not just at this level but at the top end of it (winning trophies along the way).

Not ideal for sure but definitely not a bad signing, quite the opposite

I suspect he will pair sackho until tomkins is fit. Plenty of starts.

Also we didn't buy him.

Could be excellent business.

We're not reacting negatively to Cahill, he's a fine player. It's spunking 75k a week for two years on a backup CB when we have no money and are desperate for a right back and a striker. It's the total lack of a long term plan.

The problem with Cahill is that he's slower than me with my legs tied together!

I thought he had played right back for Chelsea so maybe a temp there if tomkins is back.

Quite the opposite - there's no commitment to suggest he won't leave on a free at the end of it, so its no loss. If he does well (and he's Gary Cahill, for god's sake, not Joe Bloggs), then he'll be a good signing for us and we can extend the deal. [EDIT] And he can play right back [/EDIT] There's so much negative reaction on here!!

Gary Cahill is a winner,he will steer those around him to achieve far more. Hodgson wanted him and I can see why.
