I bumped into him a couple of weeks ago and ended up having quite a lengthy chat; was more than happy to talk about AWB’s move and stories of old players etc, but wouldn’t give anything away on incomings.

Interestingly mentioned that Parrish didn’t want to let AWB go at any cost, and that Dougie and Roy had to convince him to take the deal; felt the money was too good to turn down, but they also felt it set a bad precedent to all the other kids they are trying to push through the academy if we are going to deny them an opportunity to move on if they really flourish.

AWB had approached Dougie and Roy to say he wanted the move and they felt keeping a young player from making his dream move would be harmful to our recruitment/retention of young talent in the long run.

Im sorry but that argument is total bollocks, not yours but DF.
Im actually gonna agree with Parish here. Awb has had 1 good season. If we showed that we could develop as a club and keep good young talent add to it with a couple of experienced pkayers we would set a much better president to the acadamy players. As now all they will see is if the get the chance and impress they will be sold off.
And Dougie dosent want to talk about incoming players as there arent any.

You just know we are thinking Ward and Kelly will be fine. A bit like when we only had Souare at LB and he was in a car crash. With Ward on the right and PVA on the left our defence is looking considerably poorer than it was. We need a couple of defenders, at least, but will probably make do with what we've got. Perhaps Sam Woods can step up? Clutching at straws: he seems keen and versatile.

I expect a right back is the least we’ll bring in. Probably and hopefully a loan striker who can score because we need one.

AWB has been sold to Man U, one of the biggest clubs in the world, not AFC Wimbledon or Newport.

They will be sold off if a) they want to leave and b) one of the biggest clubs in the world come knocking, yes - how can that be a bad precedent to set?

Do you think academy players would prefer a club who refuse to sell them even if they want to leave? A club who denies them the opportunity to go and play for a club like Man U?

Its odd, because recent signings in the majority have been terrible, he does have an eye for a player. He signed Wardy Yannick Damo and Jedi all were fantastic successes.

Bolasie and Delaney were identified by Curtis Fleming. Jedi was recommended by Popovic. Ward was on Palace's radar before Freedman was even on Palace's coaching staff. We'd been trying to sign him for a couple of years before we finally got him.
Only Aaron Wilbraham was actually a 100% Freedman signing.

That explains a lot.

Interestingly Max Meyer comments favourably on Dougie Freedman's role in his signing for CPFC

Irrelevent where they have been sold to. As a club if you want to progress you develop young players and bring in better players at the same time.

As i said hes had 1 good season that does not maketh the man.

Because as a smaller club in the prem if you want to progress you keep your better players and add to. Not sell off and reolace with inferior players.

Plus the acadamy pkayers will only get the chance to play for a bigger club if Palace give them the chance in the first place.

As a club if you look at our signings imo apart from Milo, Sako and Tompkins who else has improved what we already had? Please dont say Max as Roy obviously doesnt rate him.

disagree, a kid playing for the academy will think he too at 22 can be at united or... be the wilf.....so there are options.

If a youngster is talented then you just play them, anything to benefit the side at the time. A young player without aspirations will most probably not be a very good player.

I would feel happier if someone could tell me what the club's structure is and how it works. Without giving away names or targets surely it is possible? E.G. We have a scouting system where we receive feedback from........,reports are considered by......, bids are made after...... The system has x scouts. The strategy is....... to establish a mix of young talent from lower leagues and mix with signings considered surplus by higher level clubs.
