Don't think there has been a comparable innings.

Such clarity of thought quite amazing.

Indeed! Willis getting 8 wickets in an innings, Botham getting a half century, a century and a five for.

It was a better innings than Botham’s because of the amazing batting for the last wicket stand with Leach. Botham’s stand with Dilley was brilliant, along with the final knock with Willis too. But England were were not going to lose the series that day. That match had the combination of Bob Willis’ best bowling and heroics with bat and ball from Botham.

I think people forget that match was amazing, but it was the series as a whole that was so good. The next game was also really tight too.

This current series has the potential to be that exciting, it has had a real mix of super performances with bat and ball.

Fingers crossed England can win the next match.

Roy needs dropping.

Yep, Roy is never a test player and Curran needs to come in for Woakes......I'm not sure Anderson can physically play hard test cricket anymore.

Denly needs replacing....there are several better county batsman than him and always were....I like Hain.

But selection has been a particular weakness of England's management for some time now.....that and Root's 'I want my mates' input.

Stokes should be captain.

The irony being a draw would have left us in the same position so leach got the one that counted.
Just an observation but who said cricket was boring.
Test cricket has got its mojo back I reckon.

Jason Roy is 29 and every Test he plays is taking an opportunity away from a younger player who may be able to learn and improve. There is a case to be made for picking a team to win the next game instead of always planning for the future but Roy doesn’t seem to be the man for the job.

Stokes should be captain? Ability = leadership you say...sounds inspirational. Who is your mate?

Who is my mate?

Anyway If ability equalled leadership then Root would be a good captain as he's the best batsman in England.

No ability doesn't equal leadership.... We can see that Botham wasn't much as a captain either and he had all the ability there was.....same as Flintoff.

Leadership, is the ability to manage and inspire or engage different personality types towards the same ends..
You can never be sure as too the leadership ability of a captain until they are given the job.
I suggest Stokes as a better replacement for Root who I believe has flaws in a leading of men capacity.

Your observation is wrong and no it wouldnt. It would be a tie, which isnt the same.

A draw or tie in effect was the same thing granted. However, a tie would have left us requiring 2 wins to regain ashes. Who gives a **** about technicalities!

Now we only need 1 win out of 2 as a result of winning. Tie/draw would have required 2 wins. I do love pointing out a factual inaccuracy...a different irony!

Indeed. Once the scores were level, for the match to end as a draw, the batsmen would have to have batted out the rest of Sunday and all of Monday without scoring another run or receiving another 'extra'.
