My contention is that there are far better batsman in the county system.....and frankly that was always the case....for example his first class average after 201 games is 36.47.

I view his selection as a wasted opportunity.....If you are telling me that Joe Denly is amongst the six best batsman in England we just differ wildly.

There is a big difference between first class and test cricket and many don't have the temperament to make the step up which is why so many county cricketers have been found out when making the step up.

I don't think that Denly's selection was made with an eye to the future but only to win this Ashes series and he hasn't really been any worse than any other batsman with the exception of Ben Stokes

Well, if they stick with him I certainly hope you're right.....because having a impressive temperament and personality is all very well but at the end of the day it's runs and 24 of them doesn't say much.

It's not just runs though in Test cricket. By hanging around for a few hours as he does, it plays its part in softening the ball and tiring the bowlers to make it easier the middle order to score. He's done a decent job of that.

With the news that Anderson is out for the series one wonders whether we have seen the last of him in the England test team. Shame if those 4 overs will be his swansong. He deserved much better. The word legend is used far too often in modern sport but in Anderson's case it is well deserved.

I thought he was better in the Matrix myself.....only the original though....and that fecking dying scene in the third movie deserved a deselection right there.

I see that Jason Roy and Joe Denly are to swap positions for the next test match.

Roy has been found wanting as a test opener so will be given a slightly easier ride at number 4 whilst Denly will be thrust into a position that isn't a natural one for him and will have to face a nice hard new ball being bowled by some of the world's best. If Denly fails no doubt he will be cast aside despite the fact that he's being asked to bat well out of position

Shouldn't Ed Smith admit that his experiment of using white ball cricketers against the might of the Australian attack has failed and replace Jason Roy and Jos Buttler before it's too late.

I think swapping them around is the better idea - Denly started as an opener in county cricket.....but I don't think they are amongst the six best test batsman in the country....but there you go.

Personally I'd retain Buttler as I think he is but going through some poor form......and Foakes should have been wicketkeeper.....I think Ed Smith has made a bad call there as well.

Batting unit in disarray so I know I’ll drop Chris Woakes who is averaging 20 runs per wicket in the series and averages over 30 with the bat in test cricket. Nothing against Craig Overton but he averages over 40 per wicket in the tests he has played and bowls no quicker than Woakes.
Sometimes I wonder. I hope he proves me wrong.

Very surprised to see this. Arguably Wokes is our best player. I don’t think it is the right call at all, but we’ll see.

Agree. Would have kept Woakes. First class bowler who can bat and field.

Big decision today as it's Boris's first PMQs at midday and quite likely to be some fireworks flying around.

I suppose that I could always record it and watch it at lunch

I'll stick with the cricket. I have had a little on the Aussies at 7/4 so fully expect them to be rolled over b4 lunch
