Strange they didn't appoint the coach before they selected the touring squads. You would have thought he might like to have some say in who plays in his team.

The problem is we can’t bat. Denly is the only one in the top 6 that got a ball that did a bit. The other 5 all got themselves out to balls they shouldn’t have played, very poor shots or a combination of both. It appears to be a forgotten art of batting with discipline.

Where the skipper had Jofra Archer bowling was ridiculous and he didn't change.

Root needs to get back to scoring runs. He is a poor captain who certainly does not bring the best out of those around him. Trouble is what are the alternatives. Burns, Denly and perhaps Broad - none of which are guaranteed their place long term. I would not want to give it to Stokes as he is our best player at the moment. If he lost form then god help us.
