I am picturing butterfly nets with glue on the mesh.

Borrowing has happened since money was invented.
It is the way it is, as not many people can pay outright for much more than their shopping.
That's not down to the wealth gap it's down to the cost of things being what they are and wages reflecting what you bring to the table for your client or employer.

1. Never to this extent.
2. I never said it was.

Buckle up.

I'm involved in the commercial finance industry and many of the banks and finance companies that I deal with are complaining of a lack of enquiries as they have plenty of money to lend.

Commercial finance brokers also complain about a lack of companies wanting working capital for expansion too

Being taxed to the hilt and with rising prices, whilst the government pretend there is no problem, means that even though I earn a good wage (way, way over the average), I can't afford much.
I also heard sales from some pretty big businesses are way down quite suddenly.
One might suggest a slump in consumer spending. Not good news as most Western countries have relied on consumer spending in the absence of any heavy industry and a lack of a manufacturing base.
Give it a year or even less and expect another global meltdown. I wouldn't fully think it's Brexit but the uncertainty of Brexit does not help - and I don't disagree with the idea of Brexit just to clarify.
My feeling is that the recession was only falsely averted by printing money (bailouts and quantitative easing). Eventually someone was going to have to pay the Piper. The problem is that we are all pipers and none of us saw anything get any better. Only the usual suspects benefitted.

What rate of tax do you pay, then, on your income in excess of the tax-free £12,500? And how does that rate compare with (say) 10 or 20 years ago?

If you think the present situation is bad then vote for the people who control Corbyn and find out what being skint actually feels like.

Whilst I do not believe Brexit will wreck the economy the continuing uncertainty mainly cause by Remainers will harm the economy eventually.

It is over three years and we need a decision so that business can get on with planning.

I guess this is another tactic of Project Fear if you talk the economy down all the time and continue to block
Brexit eventually we will have a crash at which point Remainers will then don T shirts which say "I told you so".

The sooner we Brexit the better.

A lot more than you and a lot more indirect taxes. Gross tax and deductions on my wages are at least a third. Tax is more than it used to be here. In the UK income tax for some may have gone down but you are being shafted in other ways. Rates would be one. In Ireland nearly everything is expensive. And my allowance is nowhere near 12,500 more like 3,500.

I had a fixed term opportuity in Dublin, but the tax and rent meant it just didn't work. I had no idea tax & cost of living was so high.
