I heard Tesco's excuse and I think it was BS. The reason they are cutting back is Metro shops are way too expensive the only time I ever used one was in Canary Wharf buying a lunchtime sandwich. You would not do your weekly shop in one.

They haven't announced it but apparently they are also getting rid of many of their meat and deli counters in their main stores. This is just a cost cutting exercise they tried to compete with your local corner shop and got burned.

There's a large Tesco's near us and around 4-5 months ago i started noticing that checking-out was taking longer, not due to an increase in shoppers, but due to a lack of staff.
Being the inquisitive (nosey) sod that i am i asked the supervisor why and she replied that all overtime had been cut indefinitely.

M&S have posted poor results because they ordered too many skinny trousers, I ask you...

I was in Bromley last week and stopped looking at the men's cloths because all I could see is skinny this or slim that.

Do M&S even understand who their target customer base is? How many slim twenty something's do you know who shop at M&S? They don't it's middle age men and older and most of us are not skinny.

I expect the same could be said of female fashion as well.

If they are not careful the once great titan of the high street will go the way of Woolworth's.
