One of the reasons that we have financial constraints is that we have overspent in the last few years both in terms of fees paid for players and the wages we have paid them. we did not have the income to buy £30 million players and pay wages in excess of 100k pw particularly when at least one of our high earners is not earning his wages with his performances. I accept that TV revenue has gone up considerably but because of these past expenses we still can not spend recklessly

The result of this was we had to sell AWB to have some financial freedom. The fact we have sold him now means we do not have to sell wilf unless we get the right offer.

I think if a buyer came in offering a fair price for Benteke or Sakho we would look at taking it. Obviously they would have to want to move.

We need to stregthen the squad overall but also need to balance the books. We have cut our wage bill with the release of some fringe players however until we see who arrives and their wages the amount of spare money is unknown. I suspect Luka's contract extension has been discussed and an offer probably made. He may have accepted we do not know remember Jimmy Mac last year.

The expansion of the ground will probably happen at some point and if it does we would get more income and obviously that will help. However SP was more interested in creating a singing section than sorting out the ground planing application

As I said poorly run.

How are we struggling so much when for being promoted through play offs we was suppose to be getting all these pay outs upto like 140m and look at other clubs that have come up they could go and spend the likes of 100m no problem we didn't do that first season over the 6-7 years our spend is not that big.

Now had we done a lot of improvements of the likes of the ground/training sorting out youth system i would say that is why chunks of funds have gone which is correct direction but we haven't spent more then 10m on all those.

That new stand is never going to happen and how much money has been wasted on that project? i bet it was most of that ring fenced money which has now disappeared.

The figures didnt add up for it anyway the so called money we would make was more SP bs that stand was all about him leaving his mark.

SP is more like a local business man with some national knowledge he is out of his depth we need people that work on global scale which we have 0 off (the other people in the club are the same not up to the standard)

Luka deal should of been locked down ages ago he is so important and SP will throw money at wilf to lock him down to new deals even when he had only signed them year before but is messing about with Luka who is proven champions league player.

Which part of bloated and unsustainable wage bill don’t you understand? How many graphs and tables will it take? I don’t agree with how things have been decided, only for Parish to form out more on expensive signings, but the reasons are plain to see.

We’ve only sold 2 players of significant value (Bolasie and AWB) when clubs down where we are would’ve sold Zaha years ago, and he’s been on £130k.

You sound like a ‘why why why can’t I have toddler?’ Face the reality for your own sake.

Wow, what a naive post. We’re not a mid table team. We spend 33 games in the bottom 4-6. We pick up more points vs teams in flip flops at end of the season.

How many players have jumped to join us in recent summers then? Or have we all imagined West Ham and whoever else nicking our targets, hence why we keep a close shop.

You’re leaving the possibility of Luka leaving for nothing, after you sad lyrical about how players are falling over themselves to join us. Not only is it illogical but if we were that well run we would get and have everything in order to encourage him to stay. It’s also bad business.

Finally you don’t seem to understand that free agents can negotiate higher wages because they’re, erm, free, with no transfer fee cost.

We are a mid table team. Its where we are after 38 games that you are judged on. Not 33.
Wouldn't matter if we were in the relegation zone till the last game, if we FINISH in a mid table position we are a mid table team.

for me, and maybe i am being biased but i think he is the best CB outside the top 6 and his wages represent that fact. i think we would miss him a lot more than we will miss AWB. i dont think we could purchase a cheaper alternative who is better than him, we could replace him with kurt zouma but he will probably end up at everton, and funnily enough has just handed in a transfer request.

He's saying we need to buy someone just as good for a fraction of the price derr!
Good luck with that one.

I hope this is clearer... We miss Sakho because the others are noticeably inferior. We could do with a cheaper alternative who isn’t any of our current CB’s. I can’t believe I’ve had to clarify that.

I agree we’d miss Sakho more than AWB, and that we’d struggle to buy a better alternative, but an alternative we’d have to find who is nearly as good, or a partnership that is as or more productive than Sakho plus any of the other 3.

We also have the wage bill issues and Sakho is on £100k. We should’ve been looking at alternatives anyway because even if you or anyone CPFC doesn’t like it, there’s rumours Sakho wants to return to France. Hopefully we have some idea how we’ll deal with that when it happens. He won’t be signing an extension I’d have thought with intentions to return to France so this must be dealt with. Here’s hoping.

Then surely with your logic its far more important to bring the 'noticeably inferior' centre halves up to Sakho's standard than to get rid of Sakho because he's expensive and keep out fingers crossed when we buy a cheaper option that he is just as good?
Oh, and I really really can believe you have to clarify because you still make no sense

Disagree. We have reduced our wage bill. Puncheon for one was on a decent wage and we have trimmed the squad down a fair bit. Dont forget the pre season wonder was on alledgedly £70k a week.

All adds up.

Now you can praise. Parrish, rightly so at times but hes the one who sanctions expensive wage eraners so then he you cant really moan that our wage bill is to high. Cant have it both ways.

If you were losing or borrowing £300 per month and reduced that down to £100 or £50 a month you’re still borrowing or living beyond your means or what is sustainable. Even if you got it down to zero, the previous losses have still happened and need to be paid, if the US owners demand it.

The issue really is there’s been very little of players at the other end of the cost scale, and when we’ve tried it, it’s been shambolic.

There’s been very little of strategy, or coherent strategies until possibly now, only now they’re conservative and frustrating. The Pardew and FDB debacles, trying to manage on minimal additions in August windows, only to spend lots more in January windows and the scouting and planning to fill positions in advance without the scouting or awareness the issues are coming. Left backs, CB’s, strikers...

Excellent post.

We slog out 40 points in a relegation scrap for 80% of the season and then let the handbrake off against teams already on the beach/ about to be relegated.

If we have reached 40 points, then our players could be expected to be on the beach as well. How do you explain the last game of the season, if we lost the opponents would of gone above us.
Some don't seem to realise that running/managing a Premier team isn't easy. As generally accepted there are a top 6, mid table and lower 6. Each have struggles, at Man Utd where money is no object, they are struggling to revive last success.
A bit of realism is sometimes required,as always the main objective is to remain in the Premier, otherwise the fallout we see us in the Championship for years.

If Vincent Tan, Roman Abramowich and Randy Lerner can do it, I'm leaning towards the idea that it's not quite rocket science.

Makes zero difference where/when the points come. If we finish with more than at least 8 other teams we are a mid table team. Live with it glass half empty brigade!
