From this it looks like the ban is on Registering players

‘The Disciplinary Committee sanctioned Chelsea with a ban on registering new players at both national and international level for the next two (2) complete and consecutive registration periods.’

I’m not sure that signing a new player (Zaha for example), and loaning him out (to us) wouldn’t count as registering new players.

This ban is universally known as a transfer embargo. If it wasn’t that then I’d expect it to be called, by all the media, a ban on playing new players (putting them in, or registering them in Prem, Champions league squads).

I think the word ‘registering’ may have been confused by grumpymort. Any player bought would be registered with the buying club, even if they’re loaned out.

I’ve been saying this for ages. It isn’t sustainable to constantly buy 28 year olds at market rates. You need to constantly pick up a couple of Meyer type signings annually and hope that one or two of them can be converted to profits a couple years down the line. Sad but true for us.

Sadly it’s a spiral we cannot break because of the urgency to replace the ageing player on his way out with an established but cheaper option in a late 20 something player.

Precisely. If Chelsea 'sign' any players, in the way that some are suggesting (e.g. signing Zaha and loaning him back) is possible, during the embargo, then I'll happily admit to being wrong.

They can’t sign and loan as the player would still need to be registered, so breach their ban; there are also rules on third party ownership that they’d need to negotiate.

They could sign a legally binding agreement to sign at a later date

I do think contracts and registration are two different entities. Wasn’t it Leicester who bought a player and failed to register him before the deadline, so couldn’t play him.

However, like the rest of us, I don’t know for certain.

you can loan back to your parent so it is allowed Barcelona did this.

the other way around it is you sign a player when you have transfer ban but set the transfer to take place the date your ban is lifted also putting in place that the club you are buying from loan that player to set club with a little fee going to that club.

always ways around things

3-4 other clubs have used these types of methods

A lot of clubs wont or cant do this only the big ones will take the risk.

Can I say as well that our pre-season is inadequate, for the players and the fans.
We could have played far more games with the fringe players in order to see if anyone was ready to grab the bull by the horns.
We also could have played top class foreign opposition but instead played Luzern and Young Boys. And we lost those too.
Away at Forest and Bristol City should be the fringe players with a couple of the first team. There should be a big home match against some big foreign side too - one that people have actually heard of.

Doesn't really seem much of a step up from Young Boys to me.

Released many players, extended Wickham's contract, signed Ayew and the Forest goalie, himself considered surplus to requirements.
Sold AWB for £45m +,but with 10 days or so left in the window, exactly where are the key signings we so desperately need,or is that us finished in more ways than one??

I think that if Wilf stays that's it for buying, couple of loans only

We need a RB but we’ve been here before with no backup at LB.

We need a scorer upfront but we’ve been here before.

We know what happens from here if it stays like this & so will Parish, but he falls back on the January transfer window if we don’t get lucky with loans before or after the window shuts on August 10th.

Not buying a RB is unacceptable although there were attempts to buy from a few approaches but they all extended at their clubs so we’ll see.

I'm going to keep this simple. I've given you the chance to produce a single link to back up your assertions; you haven't or can't. I've said that I'm happy to admit I'm wrong if, during the current embargo, Chelsea do any kind of deal that you're suggesting. I'll just add that, if they don't, I'll expect you to crawl over broken glass and hot coals before gorging on the largest humble pie ever baked. That is my final word on the subject before the current window closes.
