It's clear from that interview Roy is up for a new contract. Personally I'd give him a year's extension. What's the consensus view?

I would make it 2 years to provide continuity and time for forward planning. What he has achieved is quite remarkable in my judgement. He is very much a wise old head, extremely good tactically (especially away from home)and never flaps no matter what - even losing to Brighton!

2 years for me would be good, he needs some money to invest without doubt. Shaun Derry joining is interesting?

Agree, a one year extension while starting to look seriously at future options makes sense.

I could see Derry emerging as an option were the worst to happen and we find ourselves in the championship but feel we need a more experienced/proven coach for the premier league.

Could be a Freedman / Derry partnership?

If we find ourselves in the championship I wouldn't be surprised but I don't think that will happen.

The problem is the revenue I agree. We could be owned by the wealthiest man alive whos willing to spend billions on the club, but it would make zero difference if we dont upgrade the stadium to increase operating revenue, which in turn makes us able to spend more money.
I reckon there is money ring fenced, but the issue is the council guideline that says Palace have to fund and organise the change to public transport routes and community improvement initiatives whilst the disruptive construction process is being carried out... I dont think that was planned for by Parish and thats what the hold up is.

IIRC the introduction of our American shareholders occurred when the TV money was being renegotiated. Since then it's become apparent that this money is going through the clubs to agents and players. They had to loan money to the club to keep us in the division thanks to Pardew being given too long and the cost of the stadium / stand has increased from previous estimates whether that be economic uncertainty, planning gain or whatever. On top of that it appears they don't have a controlling interest.

Said it once, i'll say it again... this summer they should have went into the transfer window with the mindset of completely rebooting the squad. I repeat, months of prep, leading up to the window with targets and plan B's and C's in various roles.
AWB and Zaha should have been sold to generate 100 mil early doors. Had we taken 45/55 from Everton or Arsenal at a push, we would have achieved that. The dead wood should have been cut loose, Benteke, Wickham etc.

We should have shown our intent and extended roy and allowed him to bring in 4 first team challengers and 2 plan b, squad players. 4 decent players at around 20 mil each and two at around 8-9 is the money spent from Zaha and AWB.

Pre season starts and he has a month to get it together, which obviously should be smooth with acquired players.. a new RB, a new Left winger, two new strikers, couple of attacking players.

New look palace, life goes on, we support the palace.

I'm not disputing the club needs a refresh and several new additions but I am interested to know which 4 players that we could sign for £20m and 2 at sub £10m that would improve the team.

Looking at the players that moved in the last window, there aren't many in that price bracket that I'd want.

£20m in the last window would have got you a Maupay, Ings, Cutrone, Lookman, Praet, ASM, Mings, Che Adams, McBurnie and Trippier who I doubt would have joined us over Madrid.

Of those I'd maybe want Lookman. The others would have left us pretty underwhelmed and none have really set the world alight so far.

I've left out players like James who we would have never been able to get when competing with the likes of Utd.

From a recent article with SP I think he stated he had a 3 year plan in mind.

I expect the consensus is to extend roy for one more year, sell zaha next summer and then hold out for a total rebuild of the squad whilst trying to find an investor to take over from the Americans. I think it was telling...that from a Roy Hodgson interview in which he said that Palace will always struggle to compete with the top 6 to 8 because of the over inflated prices of players, and that our best bet was to keep investing in our youth development. I expect Parish plans to find the right manager to give a good lump sum of money to create a fresh team with mili at the helm, when Roy retires and that Roy is here to keep us in the premiership long enough to have the money to replace our aging squad.
