Not the most skilful nor did he pretend to be.

But he did the job he was paid to do.

Maybe someone should show Benteke a video of Alan Lee outmuscling and upsetting defenders....

Fully agree.

I shouldn't be bad mouthing someone who did provide a service (with passion).

In fairness I'd have a team of Lees over some of the overpaid wage thieves we've got now

Yeah, that’s why he spent nearly his whole career in the second tier picking up international caps, cos he was that bad.

Absolutely no clue.

yeah for ireland, and they were s***, and that was 10 caps in 3 years, approx 20% of the caps our clinton got.

some player.

Well this is a solid endorsement of our club to an Ipswich fan. 🙄

Alan Lee was one of the most committed players I have seen in a Palace shirt and a real team player. There was no ego with him. He wasn’t the best into feet but was comfortable right in the face of the centre back letting know there was going to be a war. A real blood and thunder type.

There was a reason Darren Ambrose scores 20 goals in THAT season and it was partly to do with the role played by Kuqi, and Lee to bring others into the game and attack the six yard box for crosses. Classic targets in a more territorial game. Vintage Palace it wasn’t by any stretch.

Alan’s contribution was important to the team that stayed up and as a fan that travelled to Hillsborough I have him as a cult hero with all of those players, N’diaye and Andrew included. The relief when he scored the first was unreal.

I think it is totally wrong to smash Alan Lee as some have. He was the archetypal honest pro that played to win and win as a team a forward who squared it when others wouldn’t, like Stern John.

Good luck to the Tractors for the coming season.

Excellent post. Where would be today without him?

With Alan Lee and Darren Ambrose both scoring at Hillsborough on Survival Sunday, Ipswich have had a big bearing on the continuation of our club.

If football clubs could be twinned like towns, they'd be the obvious choice.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

Without Alan Lee we had Calvin Andrew.

Alan Lee ran on his heels.

I remember Alan Lee making the statement below when he joined Norwich on loan from us:

"Things were not working out particularly well at Crystal Palace so it was good to get the opportunity to come back to a big club".

Ouch !!

Unfortunately for Alan things did not work out particularly well at Norwich either and he had to return to his small club with his tail between his legs.

I think I was at Selhurst Park when he made his return in a Palace shirt and was booed when he came on as a sub but then went on to score the winner to muted celebrations by both player and fans as neither was quite sure what to do.

I may have dreamt that bit but somewhere in the mist of time I think that is what happened but someone might put me right.

The rest of his Palace career as they say is history and a bit like Pardew he will forever be remembered for one goal.

I don't remember him saying that but even if he did, that could very much be taken out of context

i.e. 'It wasn't going well at Palace, so given I couldn't get a game there, it's good that a club the size of Norwich who I consider to also be a good side wanted to pick me up'

I don't think there's loads of difference between Norwich and ourselves and never really has been

In light of the OP not having posted further on this thread, I'm moving it to Nostalgia, where it should have properly been in the first place, but was left on PT to help out the OP. Those who wish to continue to discuss it, and the OP, can do so on the Nostalgia board.

Yes, but they overtook us in the Jordan years. Closing the Arfur to Palace fans when Norwich play at Selhurst. That main stand is overdue.

I know one thing that is different about Norwich they have been in the 3rd tier in recent memory, so perhaps they should have brought Alan Lee back.

he was fox in the box for Ipswich in his prime, we got him late in his career when he'd lost his nippiness, but Warnock knew he was getting 100% commitment and someone who could do a job and provide a few goals - never let us down though I much prefer the team of Alan Lees song to the Let it Be song, which was f*cking awful.
