There was a time when it made sense as a newly promoted side to wait until transfer deadline day and pick up the deadwood not wanted by other Clubs. I even enjoyed the scatter gun approach of Ollie's 1 window because no one was ready to go up that season.

However, I can't believe intelligent business people don't learn quickly from mistakes and pick up tips and clues from others with more experience doing it right.

Say we go out now and sign a striker, midfielder and left back (I don't believe we'll sign more than 1 btw), they could be some of the best players in the world, they won't be ready for Everton.

They'll need exactly the same amount of time as pre-season, around 6 weeks, to get anywhere near match ready.

It would make complete sense if we were battling United and City for the signing of Harry Maguire but we just know our targets will be people no one else is interested in, which is fine if we think they're a fit for Palace but pay the extra 500k and get them in before the Friendlies FFS.

It’s more likely we sign another centre midfield player to go with the 4 we already have who has only played 1 game in the last year and will struggle to be fit for the return game with Everton in the new year.

So no Bromley thread. Anybody of note on team? I see we are 1-0 down after 69 minutes. Can't beat consistency

Shame Wickham didn't get a run-out in either of recent friendlies.

A 0-1 defeat to Bromley. I'm not sure how to gauge that one in as much as how do you compare a middling National League side with an academy team from a Premier League team?

Sorry; it wasn't meant as any slur against her personally; just a play on the word. She is indeed a fine lady and a great talent.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

It's alright - I realised you didn't mean it to come out that way.

Unless they have had a full pre-season with their present club, but would still need time to bed into Roy's system (this is not a euphemism)
