I'm concerned that Kirby has not been appearing in the recent friendlies. He may be injured? i don't know, but by all accounts he tore up League One last season at Blackpool, and is clearly a talent. Luke Dreher appears to be closer to the first team at the moment. But i just don't think Roy puts any trust into youngsters, never has done wherever he has been, although the Premier league dictates this unfortunately, everyone is more concerned about the riches it brings, rather than blooding youngsters. Roy keeps saying we have a 'threadbare' depth to the squad, but then is that not what the academy is for??? to eventually bring these youngsters through

I think it's a combination of not trusting youngsters and wanting to make a point to the board about our lack of depth. I would like to see young players given a chance but if Roy is making a point I'm behind him.

No, he was forced into playing him because Ward was injured.

He could have reshuffled things and avoided using a youngster, so that is not entirely true. Plus he had been training with the first team, so Roy would have been aware of his ability. Kirby is the youngest of those on the fringes, which might explain why Dreher is ahead of him? I think he has a big future whatever the case. I think he'll go on loan to the Championship this year, with Dreher being the one making the bench for us.

From what I have seen of Dreher he looks a decent player. I agree Kirby is probably a year or so off playing top level.

The dynamic duo went to a game and saw AWB play and hadn't realised until then what a jewel they had.
They put him in the squad and suddenly Ward was injured so they threw him in and the rest is history.
That is how I understand it anyway!

Then who would have played at centre back? We had injuries all over the defence.

Blimey! We did well to lose only 0-1 to a late goal from Spurs! And that was only cos Kane's marker, Tomkins, went off injured just before he scored unmarked from a corner.

I wouldn’t say he is making a point. We now have the money to improve our squad after the sale of wan bissaka, so I really doubt that the board are sitting around doing nothing.
