I've looked at his clips on youtube and read a bit about him but I'm struggling to work out what sort of player he is...winger, attacking midfielder, holding midfielder?

Attacking midfielder or central midfielder. Cardiff used him as attacking midfielder behind the striker mostly last season and he scored some goals with good, powerful shots.

But I can't really see him playing there in the long term as there are better second strikers or attacking midfielders at Palace. As central midfielder he hasn't really done anything spectacular, but apparently he's worth 14-15 million.

On the plus side, he has the Spanish school, so a really good passer of the ball, doesn't lose it often. Maybe a little like Cabaye (hopefully, but unlikely; Holtby or Bentaleb, formerly of the PL, were more accustomed to central midfield role with success)
