I think we will announce a 23 man squad and wait till the European windows shut on 2nd September and try and pick up some out of contract players.

"Provided we stay injury-free" - when does that ever happen? And what sort of PL club goes into a season hoping - requiring - that players like Ward, our only right back, stays fit for 38 games? And even if everyone stays injury free, our main striker is Christian "4 goals in 61 PL appearances" Benteke.

I'd have been satisfied if we didn't sign any of the players we did and just got a right back and striker, but the transfer team apparently blew their tiny load on central midfield and centre back where we already have 2 players for each position. Shambles.

I am smelling the strong scent of fake tan throughout this thread. This has been (even by our standards) a piss poor window.

Yeah it was an absolute shambles, we are super-heavy in the centre of midfield and defence for a team with 'limited funds'. If we couldn't afford to strengthen/support other roles, a couple should have gone and been replaced with widemen/strikers. As it stands we have several very high earners vying for 2-3 places, while both flanks (defensively and attacking) have Jeff Schlupp as backup, and that's literally it.

How the f*** are we gonna keep that mid happy? What's Kouyakte's role this year? Why is Riedeweld still here if he is never going to play? What's Scott Dann's role given he's on a fortune and will almost certainly never play for us again?

Completely agree with Bangell and Fernandes. Complete shambles.

That’s unless Roy said he wants 7 central midfielders, which I wouldn’t be surprised at, but not at the cost of no RB or striker.

I expect we’ll be pinning our hopes on a loan striker we either know about or not. As for RB, what a fvcking joke!

agree with main theme here - its been really poor.

No right back - and it was no secret AWB was going!!

Buy a centre mid - the one position we have the most depth in.

Buy a limited attacker who disappointed on loan last season - and the club who were selling were desperate to get him off their books

The only real positive is Camarasso who will definitely add something different to out squad and did ok in a poor side last season.

Cahill may prove to be a decent signing but also shows we have injury issues at CB and Dann is no longer trusted.

None of these signing appear to be reducing our average wage bill though

The harping on about about RB is baffling, we have Ward and Kelly who can play there, but at LB we only have PVA who doesn’t like defending and maybe Schlupp at a push.
The striker role will be covered by Ayew, Benteke, Wickham and Zaha not ideal, I agree.
If you compare this window to the Sorloth, Jach and Rakip fiasco it’s not so bad. As we are balancing the books to sell.

As others have said - a complete shambles AGAIN! We must be the worst run club in the PL by far. Exorbitant wages paid to average players, no coherent transfer policy or plans to take the club forward, being constantly outspent by teams of similar size, and an ageing squad (is it the oldest in the PL?) that is not going to get better.

Instead of signing a RB, a goal-scoring striker and another winger, we got two more central midfielders, another centre-half to add to the 4 we already had, a 3rd choice keeper and one of the worst strikers we have seen at the club in recent years, and that is saying something given the rubbish we keep getting in. If I were Dreher or Flanagan I'd be looking to get away as they're never going to get a look in now.

Freedman & Co must surely be doing all they can to bring in a proper RB. We can not survive with only Ward & Kelly to take over from AWB - pretty sure someone will be signed before international window close.
If not we are in deep trouble!

The problem now is that most of the clubs that finished below us and who had taken points off, are now stronger.

Also, we took 16 points out of a possible 18 from the 3 clubs who got relegated last year.

To me, the league looks stronger - whilst we look weaker.
