Ribery would be pleasing on the eye and could still do a job in the PL but we need a goal scorer. Wilf is not a centre forward and is not great playing with his back to goal. I actually think Ribery would be a good short term replacement for Wilf if he disappears in January.

In the interim, get Wilf back on the wing where he should be and find a forward that knows where to be at what time. Benteke clearly doesn’t.

Agreed! So Palace can reach into free agents if they haven't confirmed final 25 man squad and we clearly need reinforcement in centre forward department. Is Loan window still open by the way and where do we stand on that front?

Loans are closed as far as I know but free agents can be signed before 2nd September providing there is a squad place. We have 24 players - currently one space. We could sign and register one free agent.

I recall reading about 3 years ago that 50% of Llorente's goals in 'La Liga' were with his head.Certainly not the quickest or the most mobile and not a player known for his workrate.

If it was a straight up choice then I'd take Sturridge as he offers something different to just another 'target man' who won't really suit our style. Sturridge would offer more mobility (if not injured) and a player who can finish those in the box type chances that we create more of i.e Ayew and Meyer chances on the weekend.

I actually think Zaha has been pretty amazing in the few minutes playing as center forward in the 17/18 and 18/19 seasons.

He has the height, the power, the skill and a speed that most of the PL strikers lack. He'd ba amazing in that position and the more goals HE scores (not Benteke, not Ayew), the more millions the club adds to the selling price.

Just my opinion. That's where I'd play him. A front line of Ribery-Camarasa(Jordan)-Townsend behind center forward Zaha would be terrific. With Meyer coming in at times for a older Ribery who can't always play 90 minutes. But neither can Llorente or Sturrudge.

It has to be the punt on Sturridge. I don't see how we can possibly lose that situation?

Sign him on a 1 year deal - I know he won't sign pay as you play, it's unrealistic but gets touted around by fans often. Worst case scenario he gets 5 games all season.

That's 5 games we'd have a significantly higher chance of scoring. To put it into context, had he been in Ayew's position on Saturday and scored, at the end of the season we'd have another 2 points. If that was his only contribution, it'd probably be worth the wages, especially if it's tight from 7 downwards like last season.

If Sturridge stayed fit we'd be so comfortably avoiding relegation it's untrue.

Has this been suggested anywhere in the media at something Palace are looking at? It seems to make too much sense but I'd love to get him in. I'm guessing we'll be disappointed come September?

I think you could probably add Bony to this. Ivory Coast connection with Zaha. He’s fallen away massively since his Man City move, but would have a lot to prove and maybe a pay as you play contract with a option for year based on appearances might be the incentive he needs.

We’d have nothing to lose but a squad place until January.

Agree about Bony.
I understand he’s currently training with Newport County while he looks for a club.
I’m not sure what has caused his dramatic fall from grace because he was outstanding a few years ago and got a big transfer to Man City where it didn’t really work out.
I think he may have captained the Ivory Coast at AFCON so assume he was fit for the tournament.
As a short term pay as you play deal I could see this as an option.

Napoli are sniffing around Llorente. Sturridge seems more likely but I think we will keep our powder dry until January when the Wilf circus will start up again.
