It is ridiculous that someone can have a goal ruled out as their shoulder was offside things like this make it a farce and in a close call like that advantage should go the attacking player.

You just know that at some point Palace will get screwed over by this

And probably gain from it.
Over 38 games no matter the law of averages will prove correct surely.

Rice clearing the ball from encroaching was.

Strangely, VAR was used twice in our game yesterday, and no-one even noticed.......

Absolute VAR horror show in the man city game. No consistency, no logic and much less excitement with VAR. The sooner they scrap this nonsense the better. Instead of the referee making the (occasionally incorrect) decision with the benefit of context of the game, some inconsistent ‘officials’ are going to make the (occasionally incorrect) call from some room somewhere far away.. Where’s the benefit?

Agreed, and expect more of the same going forward.

Sorry if I'm late to the party, but I thought var was only supposed to be used in four specific scenarios, and that those scenarios didn't include goalie not on line/defender encroaching at a penalty. What's happening?

Also, the Wolves manager made a shrewd observation today. In a 0-0 draw, the only big celebration, he said, was LCFC fans giving it large when a Wolves 'goal' was ruled out by a var analysis. And that was after a couple of minutes' delay. His point was that the passion within football is in danger of ebbing away. You are supposed to go potty when your own team scores (and then occasionally end up gutted when you realise that the officials have ruled it out) - you aren't supposed to go potty at the oppo NOT scoring. It's all skewed.

Finally, a number of posters have said what I've been saying throughout the var 'debate'. Instead of one identifiable person making wrong decisions, we will now simply have a group of nameless, faceless people making wrong decisions. The "it will even itself out over a season" argument is irrelevant, and anyway that argument surely applies whether there is or isn't var. Indeed; as we know, the injustices suffered by CPFC are seldom evened out!

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

It seems that an appeal can be made for a card by a footballer or club.
That's fair and correct.
All var does is gives this appeal instantly.
Even appeal results can be wrong.
If after this season it has done more harm than good then get rid.
we as fans should respect and give it a chance.
Most other sports have instant decisions with technology and it generally improves it.
Football is a sport and var will sink or swim within it.

Well the key with those handballs and offsides is to be consistent but like most things in football it won't be !!

I have to say that I am a bit uncomfortable with the offside aspect of VAR whereby one can be given offside by the length of a toe.

In cricket, if an umpire in a LBW situation gives 'Not out' because he believes the ball is missing the stumps but technology reveals it would have just brushed the stumps, the 'Not out' stands'. I think that over half the ball needs to touch the stumps for the decision to be overturned.

Perhaps there should be a similar stance with VAR under the umbrella of a 'Clear and obvious error'.It cannot be a 'clear and obvious error' if the assistant deems a player is onside and it is revealed that he was offside by a hair's breadth.

Correct. That is a decision for the ref. and there is no referral to VAR for that.

We'll be seeing plenty of this s*** all year. Maybe a year or two down the line VAR will be be used more sensibly, but expect this year to be a car crash.

VAR was not designed to rule out what would pre-VAR been perfectly good goals. It was designed to eliminate clear and obvious errors.
I really do not think that supporters wish to see goals disallowed where fractions of an inch are involved.
