Palace are unfashionable, regardless of how our players perform, for example..

- AWB last season

- Wilf Zaha 2-3 year period leading up to him picking Ivory Coast

- Jason Puncheon of 2013 - 2015

- Scott Dann of 2014 - 2015

Leicester are outside the Top 6, but are always talked about as this great club, however they never quite live up to the media hype (minus winning the league incredibly).

Bournemouth are another one, despite quite regularly finishing below us, Eddie Howe and his "plucky" Bouremouth side can do no wrong in the eye of the media.

Palace sit third behind City & Liverpool in points gained in the last 18 games (thats pretty much half a season).
How many media/pundits have you heard talk about that? Instead I read the Sky and BBC predictors each week predict we will lose regardless of who we're playing.

So far this season, we have 4 points after 3 games, and its been widely remarked that we've had a poor start, however Brighton, Burnley, Bournemouth & West Ham in the eyes of some pundits have had decent starts, yet also sit on 4 points.

As mentioned previously, we are unfashionable.

Is it only us who are unfashionable or are there others?

Off the top of my head, since taking over Southgate has picked players from;

- Brighton
- Burnley
- Watford
- Leicester
- Bournemouth
- West Ham
- Aston Villa
- Southampton
- Everton

I can only think of Palace, Sheffield United, Norwich & Wolves of the current premier league teams that havent had an England call up under Southgate (I dont count Loftus-Cheek as he wasnt ours).. I cant really remember who Roy picked, though i think it was he who gave Wilf 2 caps back in 2012.

I dont even think its because theres a vendetta against us, i think the external perception of Palace is such that we just get overlooked.

So predictable wasnt it.

So utterly predictable.

Southgate has done a lot well but the selection process still stinks to high heaven and AWB is now a textbook example.

Totally agree. Could have put your house on him getting a call-up once he had Man U next to his name

I think the lad Cantwell has a big future, hope he doesn't get his head turned for his own sake. Not sure if he is English though.
Have Wolves got any English players?

I think Conor Coady was their best chance of getting someone in the England squad, but it seems Southgate doesnt fancy him. Very good player though.

Just seen the squad. How many games has Oxlade-Chamberlain played in the last 12 months?
Don't like the bloke but feel sorry for Ashley Barnes, another on-form player who plys his trade for an unfashionable club, perhaps he should play for Austria

Yeah it’s Coady, or wait for Gibbs-White to kick on - I expect he’ll be around the England team within 2-3 years.

Given Sheff Utd and Norwich have just come up, it’s really only us and Wolves who haven’t had a player capped - as a wider point, that makes this ‘big club bias’ idea a bit of a nonsense in my opinion (appreciate that was not the point you were making yourself).

Personally, I think it’s just because we haven’t particularly had anyone good enough; I can’t agree Punch or Dann were ever really international quality - Tomkins for the last 2 years has been better than Dann ever was, and he’s not had a sniff either.

There was obviously politics around Zaha, and don’t get me wrong, it’s a joke that we’ve now lost him for England, but I think there was more to it than Palace’s perception.

Does anyone actually believe that Southgate picks the team.......or is he told who to select ? Certainly seems like hes told who he can and cant select...AWB being a case in point..plays for Palace no chance signs for w***ers straight in the team....

When you think back, i definitely think Dann could've competed with Jagielka.
Punch also single handedly kept us up for 2 seasons, and i just had a quick look at the squad selected in those years and arguably he offered more than some players.
Though i do agree they were never dead certs to be picked, though possibly slightly unlucky to not be considered.
I also agree Tomkins could class himself as unlucky too considering Dunk, Keane & Tarkowski have had call ups

I said it in jest earlier, but do you think theres a chance that United could have approached the England Setup and said dont pick Wan-Bisska till after they had signed him to keep costs down?
Without sounding like a conspiracy theorist, it wouldn't surprise me if big teams had influence over the England setup for their own gain.
