He went on to be a fishmonger after he stopped playing.

Did he have a daughter? (one for the older Rugby players amongst us)

that's not very glamorous, he could have started up his own brand of fish fingers or fish-related produce with a photo of his smiling moustachioed face adorning the packaging, that's the modern way not returning to tradesmanship, if Tom Finney was the Preston Plumber, who was David Payne? tricky no areas adjacent to Palace begin with a letter 'f' … suggestions?

i am still shocked at all the great players from South London who do not seem to have any affiliation with Palace.

David Payne is an absolute legend and an unsung hero of this club. He truly is one of our own, in every sense, and remains a fan to this day. In the age of the mercenary how we could do with another David Payne in our ranks.

A customer of mine turns out she was his daughter when we got chatting about football. He was way before my time but his daughter had some funny and interesting stories to tell. He used to play cricket for Surrey in the summer during closed season. In this day and age that sounds nuts but it wasn't unheard of in those days.

Denis Compton? Mark Lawrenson? Our Vince was no mug with the bat either, and so apparently was the Forest Hill Fishmonger, another string to his bow, and he could probably play that too

Amazed no one's said Puncheon. And he almost scored the winner in the cup final. His career literally peaked in the 82nd minute of that match, downhill ever since.

Clinton was a Spurs fan, but I suspect he is now closer to Palace

My understanding is that he grew up supporting Chelsea and Zola was one of his heroes.
