Why are you so irked by this Tom? The fella lives in the states so all teams are as local as each other to him. He can pick and choose as he likes and I wouldn't let it bother you so much

School hollibobs were up there & Isle Of Sheppy(other Grandparents). I was told by one of my Uncles that the Palace were the 'local' team to where we were living. Ive followed/supported/suffered them ever since. Its been the most excillirating, despairing, addiction ive ever known.

Formerly supported Arsenal. Picked them on the first day of the 2003 season when a local TV channel began showing EPL highlights. I knew nothing about British football before then. Picked them because of the team name and because red jerseys with a big white O2 on the front was easy to spot, and I was exhausted and watched the highlights show to relax. Turns out they went undefeated that year, which was nice. Didn't jump on any bandwagon, am not jumping off any bandwagon. I live in the States and will likely never get to a match in England. Don't care where Palace finishes; I have access to a television and a computer and can follow them even if they get relegated, which history says has happened from time to time. If I'd wanted to jump on a bandwagon I'd've left Arsenal for Leicester City in 2016. I like underdogs, I like supporting teams that fight and dole out equal parts joy and frustration. I don't like Stan Kroenke. I do like Roy Hodgson, and I like the "any given Sunday" aspect of EPL. Have I justified my life enough for you yet?

I supported the pats in AMERICAN football when they were s***e (46-10 v the refrigerator & co) … need to come off football, fed up with these miserable b*stards.

I'm a die-hard, life-long NY Yankees fan (my one nod to dynasties; can't help it, lived in or near in New York City all my life), so will always encourage people to follow the pinstripes. If you want to support a team that has a low payroll but a lot of heart, you could do worse than the Pittsburgh Pirates. Like the other moderators I am primarily an ordinary member of this forum as entitled to post his or her opinion as anyone else so when someone spouts rubbish I will take them to task - if I can be bothered. That has nothing to do with my secondary role ensuring that the forum's rules aren't broken

Actually Thunderbird I should tell you that a big footy celeb over here Danny Baker once presented a video of the 100 greatest own goals wearing various football shirts of legend but presented one sequence bear chested while a white with diagonal palace top lay rumpled beside him - he explained that he refused to wear what he described as a 'suburban Thunderbird kit' which exemplified our mock modernity in comparison to the authentic desolation of Millwall and Charlton supporters. We should welcome you and tell you tales of Don Rogers, David Swindlehurst, losing 0-5 at home to Wimbledon in 1984 with their fans singing 'team of the eighties', Doogie at Stockport, 'going down are we f*** minus ten and staying up' - nice thing about following Palace is they tend not to do midtable security, bums squeak most seasons. Fans who go back as far or more as I do will remember we were genuinely considered a sleeping giant back in the 70s with many 40k+ crowds - so while we realise we are naturally a second tier club we'd like to see us not suffer the usual vertigo but make the step up to treating top flight life as an expectation - for many of us updating the stadium is crucial to this, you can't stand still, you're a remote fan but the stadium's needs will cause financial upheaval which will affect the playing side. The state of the stadium now is a turn off to serious players.
