So good to see a ref giving free kicks and bookings where due. 6 bookings to 1 was a fair reflection of the game. He even got it right blowing his whistle BEFORE the goal. How can VAR override that?
Gary Linekar clearly undermining the game. Defiinate red card. Since when can a ref ignore his own whistle Gary?

Lineker's too busy counting his money nowadays to do his job properly

Some of you posting on here need to come to a game. Ok, fully get some of you are abroad but it is very different live.
We played our socks off. It was non stop entertainment. The singing was fantastic. Every time Wilf got fouled we got a free kick. Hodgson tactics were sound. Ayew is a star born. Imagine if we had just bought him. The guy so wanted that goal.
Great result. Decisions fairly went our way. About time too.
Couldn’t believe when I got home to see we are fourth in the table.
Then Linekar has forgotten what the whistle is for. Complete idiot. Made himself look stupid. Brilliant. If Grealish was a foul what about Ayew first half? Consistent reffing. Good to see.
But you really needed to be there to realise how much we deserved the win. Brilliant Palace. Keep it going.
Want Champions league Wilf? Stay here work hard and it could happen!!

I thought we played much better, and almost everyone had a good game. I can't think of one player who played badly. We created at least 3 great chances to score. Villa was lucky we only got one, it could have been worse.

The call at the end was pretty bad, but Grealish had been complaining all game long, and I think the ref was just sick of it at the end. Grealish basically got the same treatment that Wilf usually gets, the more he complains, the more calls go against him. Also, even though I think Grealish was fouled, he dramatically threw himself to the ground in the box, and I think it was that flourish that got him the yellow card.

Ayew played great, worked so hard all game long. Wilf created a lot. Even Kouyate was all over the place.

I have no complaints at all about this game.

2017 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Middlesboro
2018 Jan. (Sako) Palace 1 - 0 Burnley
2019 May (Batshuayi, Batshuayi, OG, Van Aanholt, Townsend) Palace 5 - 3 Bournemouth
2020 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Newcastle

I think that’s harsh on Grealish, Zaha was pushing him from behind, it’s not s foul but at the pace he was running he did well to offload the ball and then he fell over. He never dived in a million years, he didn’t even appeal.

Having seen Zaha get that rough end of the stick I’m not gonna give the same to Grealish, he was the most fouled player in the championship last year and has a lot of similarities to Wilf in that regards as a ball carrier.

For me I mostly agree, but Kouyate and Luka although they got through a lot of work, were both lucky today and not entirely consistent, the ref could have yellowed them both about 4 times each.

Kouyate is the one who I feel should drop out. He got in some good areas, but didn’t push forward enough, the Ayew ball across the box needed midfielders breaking their necks to push up and support him and he did that in patches but not enough. When he did get forward he didn’t look the most composed. On top of that, he is not great on the ball. As a physical presence he is great, but if we are gonna play two defensive midfielders, I’d have McCarthy start next time as he has a bit more about him on the ball.

Made me laugh when Linaker suggested it wasn't even the refs whistle , ''It came from somewhere '' What a pilchard .

That Grealish was making a meal of the challenge was enough to deem it simulation and was the correct decision and though I can see that the Villa fans would have a different opinion I don't expect 'neutral' pundits to make up a different set of rules on the summary . Made themselves look a bit daft IMO .

And yes not to focus on a man of the match performance of Ayew was strange given that's what they do for every other game .

And we still need a striker

Thought it was a very good performance by Palace and we should have been out of sight before the Grealish incident. We actually got some really good crosses in which just needed someone there to finish them off and it was good to see Zaha PVA and Jimmy getting down the flanks and whipping crosses in and our build up seemed much quicker with less sideways passing. Let’s hope that continues at home.

Agree that he's the one we need to drop. He was being asked to play an unfamiliar role bombing forward. He was the right choice for United away but we still lack that Cabaye creativity in midfield which I'm hopeful Camarasa can bring in an attacking midfield role. We started with essentially 2 DMs and a defensive CM which was odd, albeit understand you wouldn't want to change the team that beat united and it did pay off eventually.

We looked good throughout and the ref was very good until the Grealish decision which was just wrong to be honest. We deserve some luck for a chnsge though!

Cahill has been very lucky in his last two games now.

Should have seen red against United and he did foul Grealish at the end of the Villa game.

I haven't seen MoD yet so can't comment on Lineker - idiot that he can be.
Yesterday I said that I thought it was time for Hodgson to go and I still stand by that even though the stats suggest very differently.
We have been very successful since February and we would all have taken 7 points right now and it is not his fault that we have spent very little in the transfer window and that someone did a very silly thing by throwing a contract extension to Wickham.
He has steadied our ship and we are in a relatively good place.
I am sure Hodgson will still be with us until the end of the season but I would like to see someone new take the helm after that.
I do not feel that we are seeing the best of Palace even though the points tally is good.
I am not suggesting a Pardewesque Manager - I still can barely bring myself to mention his name - but someone to do a little more with what we have and take a chance now and again.
Everton was dull, how we beat Man United I will neve know, Sheffield Utd away was an embarrassment and yesterday although we played our socks off we nearly ended up with a draw.
I have a season ticket but couldn't go yesterday and wish that I had because live is better than a stream on an i pad and it seems it was a great afternoon and so maybe I should be content with where we are and the fact that we have stayed in the Prem. for a long time now.
I am not a "why aren't we in Europe" fan but think - but for one goal yesterday - great goal from Ayew as well by the way - this thread would be full of bile.
One goal should not blind us to the facts

Linekar seemed to suggest it wasn't blown by the ref!!WTF. Something along the lines of "well a whistle was blown somewhere, refs hands were down at his side" He should be taken to task and asked to explain, he seems to be suggesting someone edited the whistle in. Clearly Palace stopped. Nothing about Palace at all, still at least Leicester are 3rd

It was a dominant display after the first fifteen minutes and it was pleasing to see us attack down the flanks and get players forward.
I am one of Hodgson’s critics because of his rigid methods, but yesterday we played with more verve and it was telling that Mcarthur, Kouyate and Luka could each have ended up with a couple of goals.
This was unusual for the midfield players under Hodgson to get so advanced and I hope we saw more of it - and improve the finishing if it not too much to ask!
