What about toad in the hole does that get mrs stirling's juices flowing?

A 'proper cockney' assured me that "syrup o' fig" and "Irish jig" are interchangeable.

My least favourite was when chicken bones would get boiled up to make soup. I don’t really remember the taste but the smell was horrible.

Those of us of a certain age probably still do that. I certainly do as stock made from chicken bones is far nicer than using a chicken stock cube and the smell isn't so bad as we have extractor fans nowadays

Might be an old thing but my dad always does and I went the same route.

I always use the water from the veg to make the gravy with - can't have faggots without a sea of gravy!

The Norwich City majority shareholder recommends mushy peas?

As you were.

There is a world of difference between veg that has just been picked and the tasteless old stuff lingering on supermarket shelves but even so I don't grow my own

An homage to the allotment movement during WW2, no doubt Stirling. In particular, railway embankments were given over to be used as allotments. That's why to this day one will often see allotment plots close to the railway line as the train trundles past.

Neither do I, but the man down the road with a smallholding and an honesty box puts all his spare outside daily. Two pounds of runner beans for £1.50, picked between 7-9 am and served up for lunch at 1pm (with the rest for the freezer later)

The only thing I would ever recommend mushy peas for is the dustbin
