I agree.

Why on Earth did the Ireland player kick for touch at the end - or kick at all - knowing that the gong had sounded?

Warburton’s view is probably right - Ireland were due a losing bonus point so didn’t want to risk conceding any more.

Fair do. My post preceded Warburton's assessment. It does seem like something of a concession on Ireland's part though.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

It does but it speaks to the pragmatism of sport. That bonus point could be very important. Also something of a tribute to Japan that they didn’t want to risk running the ball.

Wales v Australia should answer a lot of questions

How good are wales?
Who will England get in the quaters

Can't wait should be a great game .....

I think Australia are going to win by a very small margin, hope not as I would not really want an England v Wales quarter final.

Well done Wales. Incredible defence, Australia rather played to Wales’ strengths in trying to bash up the middle but that was some effort.

Agreed - Wales were excellent in the first half and hung on very well in the second, thought Australia were too lippy.

Well done to Wales. Still think the Aussies should've had 2 sin-bins, but TMO said no. On that note, some good news for England & Piers Francis . . .

Yes, i'm a N'ton Saints fan, so maybe slightly biased & glad Dan Bigger didn't get too hurt.

Piers Francis cleared to play.
Citing panel decided the tackle was only worthy of a yellow. Probably the right decision considering the really serious ones were only given three weeks.

Well done to Wales for grinding out that Australia win the other day. It's shaping into a good tournament. Got to love the enthusiasm of the Japanese crowds too. It puts the empty Doha athletics world championship stadium to shame that's for sure.

Slightly odd game today with many handling errors. Samoa didn’t seem to have a game plan but fair play to Scotland. They needed a result and they got it.

I predict an England win Saturday - probably not an easy one. Although, Argentina may well be more dangerous than France - which is next week.

Great to see Wales come out on top in the first big North v South fixture.

England should win on Saturday. Argentina have been getting better since their introduction to the rugby championship and the creation of the Jaguars.

England's inconsistency is a real concern for me. Any lack of concentration and they will be in trouble
